03 M3 vs 05 S4 - 3 drag strip runs full video

Last night, my buddy in his 2003 M3 vs. my 2005 S4, had to settle an old age dispute, once and for all. Both cars stock, no mods. 1/8 mile drag strip, 3 runs, best of 3 wins. Small wager, just to spice it up. No bragging allowed, just hard core evidence:

that was pretty slick. the diff btw the 2 in 0-60 is like 0- .2 sec diff i believe in favor of the M3 (if the M3 is has a SMG tranny), this race had a lot to do with driver skill

that looks like some sort of temporary track...no scoreboards, and overpass before the starting line, and a lowes in the background?
great video though!

Its all becuase of the launch, that m3 would have reeled him in on a roll.

It is a local 1/8 mile drag strip in San Diego, at the Qualcomm stadium...
Qualcomm It is not a "true" drag strip by any means, but still a safe and controlled place to race and have some fun + you get a time slip.
For those who care about ET, here is my best run data:
60' = 2.219 sec.
330' = 6.079 sec.
1/8 mile = 9.161 sec @ 82.65 mph
0-60 mph = 5.547 sec.
OK, so I didn't brake any records (after all this is a stock S4 with no mods whatsover with only 3,000 miles),
but I spanked that M3 and saved Audi's honor. But yes, he is a ****ty driver...

How do you figure that? S4 has more torque and power that comes sooner and lasts longer.
M3: 262 lbft @ 4900 rpm; 333 HP @ 7900 rpm
S4: 302 lbft @ 3500 rpm 344 HP @ 7000 rpm
I embarassed two M3s on the freeway already from approx. 65 mph to 130 mph +.
Yes, I used to be a rally racer back in the days, but still. M3 needs to be kept above 6,000 rpm all the
time (which is hard for inexpereinced drivers).

Musculo, your hp num are to the crank. You are forgeting that he sending that power to only 2 wheels, you are sending it to 4 therefore a higher drivetrain loss, so yes, that me would have done some reelling with the right driver.

regardless though, the S4 SPANKED him!

haha the guy in the M3 disgraces BMW. The M3 should be slightly quicker off the line, right? M3 weighs only 3052lbs while the S4 comes in at 3659lbs, hmm. Definatly depends on the driver. The difference shouldnt be that great, but im all for the S4 winning.

Well fellas, next Friday is our rematch. My M3 buddy deserves another shot at the track, and I hear he's been practicing lately...he has been under extreme pressure at work to step up to the plate, or everyone will keep making fun of him and his driving. Our friends will tape all the runs (we are planning for at least 3-4 runs) and I'll post it next Saturday. I even offered to swap the cars for at least one run, just to see how much of a ****ty driver he really is. It will be fun!

So I got good news and bad news. Bad news is that Friday night event got cancelled due to some kind of timing wiring problems, so the strip was closed. Needless to say, we were bummed, so what did we do? Held the races in the parking lot of our office building. As you will see from this video clip, it is a flat, long and straight line from one end to another and enough width for 2 cars. Coincidence? We measured 1/8 mile, had one guy at the finish line, one "flag man" and went for it. My buddy in M3 went home so he didn't race, but a guy to beat in our company with a sweet '71 Mustang Mach 1 (351 Cleveland, short gears, some other mods) and I lined up and had 3 runs. Our last run that is recorded in this clip (please forgive low lighting, it was dark with no street lights, S4 is closer to the camera) we were neck to neck and I actually crossed the finish line first by couple of feet! This is impressive if you consider his muscle car prowess and drag setup (although on street tires). My S4 ran strong, I had a perfect launch and another victory in our S4 arsenal!
