Hi everyone,
Sorry in advance for the noob question. I have a 2002 A4 3.0 with Xenon headlights, and the Ballast no longer works due to some water damage, and my bulb is still good. I got a quote from the dealer on a new one and they want $680 plus change for it. I've looked around the salvage yards in the area with no luck. It seems to be a fairly tough part to find. Does anyone know of a part I can find cheaper that would be compatible with what I have, or some options that would be cheaper than paying the dealer price on a new ballast?

the igniter actually ignites the bulb
The ballast in an HID lighting system generally has two purposes. It provides the proper starting voltage to strike and maintain the arc, and it regulates the proper current to the lamp once the arc is established.
order it from the parts department, take off your headlight housings and it is screwed up underneath it.. easy DIY!

$680 was just the cost of the part, which seems excessive to me. I'm not concerned about installation as much as I am just getting the part at a reasonable price or finding a "plan B"

what the hell??? i got all OEM hid parts (bulbs, igniters and ballasts for $260...
there is a guy on audizine that sells OEM ballasts for cheap (used) search for him.. akinaboy is his name... thats where i got mine and no problems six months later!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll lookk him up. If anyone else has any suggestions keep 'em coming.

lol! ecodes FTW! im poor now so i just clear cornered mine... do those ecodes include ballasts? if so, nice deal!
