M3 is faster, but come on, this is an Audi forum. I haven't driven either, so I can't comment. S4 is still pretty quick, is bigger, costs less, and has awd, plus a nice V8 growl. M3 has that SMG trans which I think is sweet.

i would rather have the 6 speed than the smg, its cool, but i hear its not nearly as fun as a classic six speed

What's the difference.... 0-60 in 5.6 or 0-100 in 5.2. And if you want to get to 5.2 with the M3 the weather conditions should be perfect... with the S4 you have traction under any circumstances.
The S4 is just the best allrounder.
I've read a test about the SMG transmission and they said that it works brutally, unpleasant and agressive when you fun it on sport.
wouldn't be lot to doubt about for me...

I would take the M3 over the B6 S4 but not the B5 S4 . Allthough I haven`t driven the B6 it seems to big and untunable or at least not as easy to tune.

Yeah but it will prob be more reliable than the Twin Turbo V6 with increased boost. I'd take an S4 if it was my only ride, I'd take an M3 if I had another car that was bigger and had 4wd if needed.

yea so while were on the topic, i believe i said before i would rather have an m3 with a 6-speed, i change my mind, i rode in a e46 m3 this weekend and the last, and the SMG is badass, we hit 160 on the tollway in dallas, it was pretty sweet.

The M3 is very, very fast and all but the early 1990's ones have 6 speed box. I had one for just over 18 months and boy-o-boy do they shift, the S4 is fun but does not feel fast. They are different cars. If you want something that feels quick then go for a Subaru turbo, is is half the price of these and about the same speed but feels twice as quick....
Shop around and test drive them all, thats the only way not to waste cash...

The stock WRX tranny wouldn't support that kind of power.

Who the hell wants a Subaru though? They are cheap, tacky, cheap, and I guarantee you, a modifed job is unreliable not to mention a tad hard to drive around town and at any speeds less than racing speed. Oh,, they are cheap and tacky too...Also, would you buy a second hand WRX or modified one? They are a nightmare to sell on, why you think they are so cheap second hand?? And they are cheap and tacky and boy racers cars...If the car was so much better with the extra power why did Subaru not produce that car as standard..? The std car needs an engine rebuild at 50k miles, what about a heavily modified one?
