The W12 is 6.0L not 8.0L and puts out 450 HP @ 6,200 RPM and 428 lb-ft @ 4,000 - 4700 RPM. I have not read anything about a new version of the S8 yet.

The V10 is going into the next RS6, so maybe they will put the old RS6 twin turbo V8 in the neq S6, or maybe th same NA V8 thats comin in the RS4?

I heard that they are releasing the new RS6 with 550 Hp. We all know that. But also, that Audi will release an S6 with 440hp. I doubt the S8 will have 550 HP because high performance in that model range falls into the W12 engine. But I would not be supprised to see it have around 440 HP.

Forget to mention, the there will be an S line package, which will only have luxurary add ons to the car. Like a S type grill, but also, next year Audi is expect to add to cars to the 6 range, the S6 with 440 Hp, the RS6 550 Hp. In all there will be the a6 3.2, the 4.2 the 5.5 with 440 and the 5.5 with 550Hp. Plus the avants, so I expect to see a simular line up with the 8 range, the 4.2, then the extended edition, and Audis goal is to include an S variant in every model range, so one will probably be included. But I doubt it will have turbos from the old RS6 because Audi is abandoning the turbo power, as none of their new models have them.

What's the deal with the A8 in "Transporter 2" with the W12? Is that real? I know one thing, that car is tough lol

9/14/2005 3:34:35 PM
Yes, that is a real car. the W12
Its alot faster than the regular 8 and much nicer. Goes for like $120,000 (my audi dealer told me that will be the price of the new RS6 with 550 Hp), its a great car. But I doubt it could go off a building, but dont you think it would be cooler if that guy had like an RS6 instead of the w12? I mean, common its such a cooler car, just so much damn power.

Just got back from friend who works at NEW Country Audi in Greenwich Ct (Where I live, is largest Audi dealer in the world). Anyway, I was asking him about the new S6. He told me it is about two years away, but the S8 is around the corner, as in realsed next year. IT WILL HAVE 550 HORSES!!!!!! IT IS GOING TO HAVE THE NATURALLY INSPIRED RS6 ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats out of an Audi employees mouth, I hope its true.

Is that really true, because I purchased my 3rd Audi from Greenwich, and I ask questions here and there but nothing is ever true. Who told you from there?

My dealer who we purchased our S4 and our A6 from. He is a nice guy, and everything he has told us in the past has been correct. So I am hopeful

I dont know why it would have a V8 under the hood, that just doesn't make sense.

1. People that have the money to buy an S8 would definitely take the V10 outta the Lambo over the old V8
2. There is plenty of room under the big A8 hood to put in a V10
3. How do you wanna justify the price of the S8 (I assume it will cost a little more than the W12) if it has 4 cylinders less than their top of the line vehicle?

I'm gonna ask my uncle who works for Audi Northrine Westfalia in Germany. Oh yeah, by the way since this is my first post in here: I'm from Germany but I go to college here. Auburn, AL to be more specific.
Well anyways.. just wanted to add something to think about ;)

Peace

Here is something I found, very interesting.....................

Audi has just released info on its upcoming S8 sports sedan and it will be powered by a modified version of the Lamboghini Gallardo's V10. Perhaps dropping a V10 in a road car might be a way of connecting what's on the road to what might possibly be on the way for the track. I'm not saying it will be the Lambo unit, but simply that to have a V10 on the road and the track come out in the same year would be a good thing. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed with the power output though. The other German super saloons are making 500, and Audi's W12 A8 already makes like 425 I think.

Here's an article from Classic Driver:

2006 Audi S8 quattro with Lamborghini V10
First ever 10-cylinder Audi model

Using a 5.2-litre version of the Gallardo's V10, Audi will be showcasing their 2006 S8 quattro at next week's Tokyo Motor Show. The engine produces 450PS at 7,000rpm, and peak torque of 540Nm at 3,500rpm - enough to give a 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed limited electronically to 155mph.

Weighing in at a comparatively low 220kg, the new engine exhibits the same meticulous attention to lightweight construction as the body shell of the S8 quattro, which in line with all A8 models features all-aluminum panels mounted on an aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF). The result is an overall weight of 1,940kg, and a power-to-weight ratio of 232PS per ton. The first ever V10 from Audi is effectively harnessed by a chassis combining adaptive air suspension with the latest generation quattro permanent four-wheel-drive system, featuring a standard torque split of 40:60 (front / rear) that helps to optimize axle load distribution for even greater agility and steering precision.

The air suspension is based on the Sport set-up offered throughout the A8 range, featuring firmer damping and a 20mm ride height reduction in each of its four modes. The system has been modified for the S8 quattro to suit its even more pronounced sporting bias, while the speed dependent Servotronic power steering has also been further sharpened through revisions to the steering ratio giving a reduction in lock-to-lock turns. 20-inch S-design alloy wheels shod with 265/35 ZR 20 tires distribute the power to the tarmac, and within these are massive 15-inch front and 13-inch rear disc brakes that keep the S8 quattro effectively reined in at all times. High performance ceramic brakes will also be available as an option, offering vastly improved temperature tolerance for the best possible resistance to brake fade and an operating life of up to 186,000 miles in everyday use - four times the lifespan of a steel disc.

Adaptive lighting technology is another distinguishing feature that only the W12 A8 models share as standard. The xenon plus head lamps incorporate additional static turning lights and dynamic cornering lights that respond to steering inputs to light the driver’s path perfectly through each corner. Inside the car, full leather upholstery with seat centre panels, side sections and head rests in contrasting colours, a three-spoke S quattro steering wheel with aluminum look gear shift paddles and facia inlays in either brushed aluminum or carbon fibre highlight this model’s position as top of the A8 range.

The S8 quattro is also equipped with the revised and now even more comprehensive standard specification from which all A8 models benefited earlier this year. This includes DVD-based satellite navigation, light and rain sensors, the Audi Advanced Key system (enabling keyless access and start-up) and voice control technology for vocal operation of radio, CD player, car telephone and navigation system. These features added to an already lengthy list that incorporates front and rear acoustic parking, cruise control, 14-way electric seat adjustment, electronic climate control, a 6 CD changer and the acclaimed Multi Media Interface system enabling intuitive control of many of the car’s functions.

In Germany, the price of the new S8 quattro has been confirmed at 97,600 Euros - UK pricing will be finalized nearer to the car’s 2006 launch.

Yup its true, before I read this tonight, I stopped by Audi just to see whats up and talk to my dealer. I asked him if he has any more certanty on next years vehicals, his words, "the new RS4 which will be a hell of alot of fun, and the S6 and the S8. You should come in and take a look when they're out." Then I asked bout the RS6 and the R9 he said, "Those are still aways" Me- "Like 2008?" Dealer- "Maybe" So there you have it, 450 HP S6 and S8, the RS4 (which we all know is coming out) and then the RS6 and the R9 and A5 (coops and convertibles, like BMWs 6 series) will be in the distant future.

Audi R8 - what’s under the hood?

Prompted by a tip by Luca over at eurocarblog, we did a little research into the R8’s powerplant.

According to Audi, the Le Mans quattro unveiled in 2003 at the Frankfurt auto show was driven by a 5-liter, twin-turbo V10, with four valves per cylinder and continuously variable valve timing. Like the racing R8, the engine features a direct fuel injection system (FSI). As built for the Le Mans quattro, the 610 bhp engine powered the concept car to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Luca reports Auto Motor und Sport as citing identical numbers for the R8, so it seems that the production engine will be essentially unchanged from the concept car’s.

The normally aspirated version of the V10 powers the Audi S8 and the Lamborghini Gallardo. The S8’s FSI V10 (pictured above) delivers 450 hp, while the 2006 Gallardo version cranks out 520 hp.

[Thanks, Luca!]

Audi R8 - from the track to the street!
Posted Nov 15, 2005, 5:00 PM ET by Stuart Waterman
Related entries: Sports/GTs

Well, sort of. Audi announced Tuesday that the production version of the stunning Le Mans quattro concept car (pictured) will be called the Audi R8, after the all-conquering Le Mans prototype racecar.

The new R8 will be built at Audi’s Neckarslum plant under the direction of its subsidiary quattro GmbH. The factory houses Audi’s Aluminum Centre, and specializes in lightweight design technologies. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2006, with market availability in early 2007.

I'm almost positive it's a V-10 but not sure about it being the same as the Gallardo.
