Hi all, great forum, I've been reading around since my first few posts a few weeks back and there is so much great info in here!

I got my '99 A4 Avant 1.8T about 6 weeks ago. Took it on it's first road trip this weekend from SF to LA, and aside from the gas prices, it was awesome!

I had to take it to the dealer to unlock the radio from SAFE mode a few weeks ago, and I priced out the 90k service which is coming up soon (86k on the odometer now) and I was quoted about $760 from the dealer. Off I was to visit a local mechanic (that several friends go to) for another estimate -- they use genuine parts, and quoted me $480… but my question is what is actually serviced at 90k? The car didn't come with the service manual, and I haven't been able to find that info online either. I was hoping to find a page that has all the services and all the details for each service. I know the timing belt is not part of the price I was quote (Audi told me they recommend 105k to change the timing belt) so I'll take care of that before the end of the summer.

Thanks for the help folks!

On this forum we change the timing belt at 90K mi. If you don't it might cause $3,000 damage. Find an independent mechanic. Do the tensioner, damper pulley water pump and antifreeze. Check my previous post "TIMING BELT".

A lot of people actually recommend 60-70k miles.

Audi now recommends 75 K mi for 2003 and 2004 1.8T.
