A3 diagnostic code reader / reset?

Hi,

I have an A3 1.8T with a temperamanetal "check engine light".

An idependent has looked at the car for me and the codes it keeps coming up with are long term codes that in the mechanics opinion only need attention when the car starts to run badly.

Is there somewhere I can buy the kit to read the codes myself and reset the check engine light to save paying £25 every time the light comes on?
