Audi marketing seems to target this car to the "young professional."  I am curious what the average age of A3 drivers are out there.

You'll have to increase the age categories by a third to get me in there.

I've always wondered about that "young professional" thing.  All the younger single guys I work with would not have anything to do with the hatchback / wagon layout.  Anything that even slightly comes across as 'practical' scares them away.  Maybe they should say that it is slanted towards the "young at heart professionals".
'Sides how do we define "young".

Sure Audi markets the car, albeit silently, i.e. word of mouth or like me, I saw it in the WSJ. The A3 brought up fond memories of my 81 German Spec GTI I had while stationed in Germany. Around this time Audi came out with the 4000's/5000's and I said silently to myself, if Audi ever comes out with a hatchback like the GTI, it's mine!!!

At 45, when I purchased the car, I am outside Audi's target market. I believe Audi like Scion, with its box, does not know what people want. I see just as many people older than me in those Scion boxes.

I guess it comes down to my first statement, Audi's marketing is "word of month first," Audi owner's of other model's second, or visa versa.

LOL

I like the line, "young at heart".   I get harrassed by the young 20's folks at my work for driving a "station wagon".   They just don't get it.

Cheers!

Normally I don't like my car being referred to as a "station wagon", but as long as my ins co wants to classify it as such, then I guess that is something that I will just have to live with!!!

It's a Sportback, damnit! Real men don't drive wagons. If the insurance company wants to call it an economy wagon, fine by me - $50 a month for complete coverage! Just don't tell anybody.

31 and all of my friends and family give me a hard time for driving a station wagon, but I love it and I make sure to point out that its a sportback.

Some people at work always give me a hard time about the wagon.  I keep telling them it's not a friggen Wagon, it's a Sportback.  It's a Sportback that will kick your a$$.   There are never any takers.

Im curious about the male owners to female owners of A3's. Every girl I know that sees my car says its cute!!!! That makes me so angry. I don't drive a cute car! Some people think it's a girl car. Highly mistaken in my opinion.

Most of the people you will encounter on any automotive forum will be males, so it will be hard to find out anything here.  That being said, a lot of girls refer to my car as "cute" too.  Of the 5-6 A3's I have seen around town, its been about an even m/f ratio.

I know i posted this somewhere else...apologize for repeating.  A3 was top of the list of 'chick cars' on last weeks episode of 'test drive' on mojo.  This affords us one luxury...they never see us coming.

I asked this exact question on the test drive; answer from the passenger seat "ive sold A3s only to men".  I believed him at the time but now i wonder.

Anyway you slice it, Its a great looking car -- just dont think im going to be hanging rubber nuts from the back bumper anytime soon.
