35.  Regarding the Scion box, Honda did the same thing with the Element.  They spent millions on marketing to the - just out of college market - and then found out that 40 somethings were their #1 buyer.

44. Some of the reasons I am considering the A3: I can fit a surfboard inside (9' longboard), fun to drive and the great looks imho make it a semi-classic. I suppose here in Hawaii driving a wagon is not such a curse as it might be elsewhere.

You can fit a 9' surfboard in an A3???   What the hell kind of model are they producing in Hawaii???   I could barely fit a 9' surfboard in my minivan.

How about you get a roof mount for your surfboard?   It can double as a set of wings for some seriously fun high-speed maneouvers.   LOL

Cheers!

yeah, how is that possible without giting wax on your seats??? I have a 9'11" so got some Thule racks. There's no way i'd try to put any board bigger than a 6'3" inside my car.

Intrigued to see the range here (and those that might have more 'senior moments' like mine).

I had a hard enough time getting my 157cm snowboard inside my car.   You must have the front passenger seat laid down too.  I really do need to invest in a roof rack for my car.

When I first was looking at the A3 all my friends were like "are you seriously going to get a wagon? are you a soccer mom or are you a man?"  Thank God I dont care what other people think otherwise I would have never gotten the joy I get everyday when I get in my car.  Now when they are riding in it they compliment the interior design and its performance.  Also while they struggle to fit their sh*t in their coups I can sit back and laugh.  I still get some comments about it being a wagon but I am quick to call it a sport hatch-back and ask them what they fit in their trunk lately.

33, almost 34.  Does it matter than I can easily pass for 24-25?

Re: girl car - girls tend to have better taste in material possessions, right?

Re: wagon - I've driven wagons since 2003, so does that make me an old soul?

Coincidentally, my last car (WRX wagon) was much more of a 'wagon' and was called 'cute' a lot more often.  My Audi gets described more often by both sexes as 'sweet' and 'damn fine looking'

This is a bit off topic, and not intending to hijack the thread,
just to answer some valid points:

Regarding the 9' longboard - will have to try.  I do not have the A3 yet.
In my Subaru, when I put the front seat down, there is another foot or so
under the dash with the longboard in. Hence I ASSUMED it might work.
I will have to measure before I buy, or learn how to ride
a shortboard. I measured the distance from trunk to under the
dash in the BMW 328 coupe and it actually looked like the 9' would fit,
with the seats down, of course.

The wax issue - I have a bag, the wax is nasty indeed.
Not a big fan of the roof racks - it rains here quite a bit, a salty bath
for the car each time that happens.

But thanks for raising the length issue, will have to check.

Phildo .......I know i posted this somewhere else...apologize for repeating. A3 was top of the list of 'chick cars' on last weeks episode of 'test drive' on mojo. This affords us one luxury...they never see us coming.

45.   46 in a week (damnit).  But I had a 77 rabbit when 18, an 86 GTI when 25, an 97 318ti when 35, so this car is kind of like all of those.  I guess I'm just stuck in a rut.  a very nice rut.

And the geezers bull their way to the lead. I'm tellin' you, it's a vehicle for responsible, Republican, senior citizens - perfect for those daily trips to the Doctor (easy to park), or those quick jaunts to the mall for a walking workout. A folding wheelchair fits perfectly in the back, and the cubby under the seat is handy for a small inhaler or oxygen booster.

Now you just had all of the 20-somethings list their car for sale.

Gee, would the Bluetooth connection work with my pacemaker so I wouldn't have to shuffle all the way into the doc's office in my robe and slippers?

Now be kind, since I really do have an "Implanted Cardiac Device" to shock my heart if it stops again.

And seriously, a hearing specialist told me that the latest hearing aid has a Bluetooth interface.

I had a girl call my A3 'cute' one time too... she changed her tune real quick after she got a ride!

My ICD is monitored over the phone through a device at home.  Ain't old age great?  I've got the hearing aids also but they can be controlled remotely.  I don't think they are bluetooth, though.

LOL.  Hey geezers.  Did anyone go from a Buick to your current A3 or did anyone have a Buick listed as one of their cars they were considering when they purchased their A3?  If that is the case then I would be really concerned about the demographics for this car.  I'm not in that upper age range yet - but that is slowly creeping up on me.  My wife is counting the days till I go from a gas tank hugging type bike to one of those straight up cruisers.  She says that's pretty well the ultimate sign.  Until then - I'll just keep popping the anti-inflamatories and go with a heating pad after a good ride.

Hell no....one of the advantages of being a geezer is driving whatever you want.  I came from a TT Roadster to the A3.  Buick?????   I think my Dad has a Buick though.  He is in his 80's but really likes my A3.
