Hello, all,
I'm looking in to getting an A4 and was wondering if anybody had some insight for me as to why I should or should not get it. It's a '98 four cylinder with the turbocharged engine. It's a 5-speed manual with 144,000 miles on it; I test drove it last night and was thoroughly impressed. The clutch was amazing, I've been driving a BMW 528i for the past week or so that's a five-speed and the difference between what it takes to enguage the clutch on the Bimer and what it takes to enguage the clutch on the Audi is amazing, the Audi's a feather!
The guy's asking $5,800 for it. I ran the car through Kelly Blue Book and as it turns out, he's being pretty honest, not greedy. That's just about what it's worth. When I asked him if there was anything wrong with it, he replied that the passenger door doesn't unlock when the remote is used, the engine overheat light comes on occasionally (but it never overheats), and there are a few minor scratches.
I'm impressed with the car, I typically don't like 4-cylinder vehicles but this one seems a breed apart. Does anyone have any insight for me? Anybody who's had one for awhile? I'm looking for information on what typically goes wrong, when, and how much it costs to repair.
Thanks, glad to be on board,
van

with that many miles on it your going to want to ask him what maintenance has been done to it. The car is due for a new timing belt and water pump. This is usually done between 60-80K so i hope its been done already.
Ask him what other parts have been replaced and/or repaired. How many miles do the tires have on them, etc. Just normal info that your going to want to know about the car before you bite the bullet
