Hi all, my 1st posting. I have recently purchaed a 2000 A6 2.4 avanti tiptronic auto.
Most times the car starts normally, but at times when turning the key to start, the lights come up normal on the dash but no engagement of the starter motor I can leave the car 2 mins or hours and still the same, and other times it will fire up as normal.
I have taken the car back to the (non Audi) dealer a few times but to no avail. They have now fitted the car with a seperate override button fixed to the dash, of course the car can now be started in gear, not good.
Any ideas or past experiences anyone.
Thanks
peter

Sounds like a problem with the slector lever circuit board theres a magnet in the corriagted slider around the gear stick that can fall out and cause problems, but this would cause the gear selction on the dash to illuminate all the gears to show that there is a problom. I think you shoud take this car to a dealer so they can check it with diagostics and take out that switch that you have had fitted by bodge it and leg it. That switch will proberly end up costing you more mony in the end as it will proberly be causing high resistance in the circuit and end up melting the gearbox ECU. Best of luck
