I have a solid abs light on. I scanned the comp with my scangauge, but no codes came up. On the scangauge site, its says its compatible. Do I need a different reader? Or dont abs codes come up? Also have an airbag light from the blown airbag, is there any tool besides the pricey vag-com?

nope. Find someone near you with the VAG or go to the stealership for just a diagnostic.

Considering that most garages charge ~$85 to "diagnose" your car... $250 vag-com is a steal. It's mandatory if you want to DIY repairs.

nope, if you get the cable from ebay, you can scan abs fine. make sure to buy from a person called alphabid though.

This is all I found on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-ENGINE-SRS-ABS-AIRBAG-USB-CABLE-LEAD_W0QQitemZ320215767286QQihZ011QQcategoryZ30921QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122

I do plan on doing most of my own work, and I do plan on owning audis for a while. But sheesh 250 bucks. And its only good for audis?

Yeah hiwords is right, if you get the ebay version you can save a lot of money and keep like 80% more of the usefull functionality. Here's the break down of the differences. http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-functions.html

Will I be able to get rid of my airbag light and check brake codes? Theres really nothing else that I want to do besides read and clear codes. Its just a 12v 2.8. Not much to care about. If I pick up an S4 I might opt for the real deal.

Oh and I didnt see the cable on ebay that was mentioned. Is there anything I should look out for or stay away from? They are all roughly the same price.

Thanks for the help!

Fvck e-bay cables! Spend the $250 to get all the functions of the VAG COM, your literally getting a scanner equal to the $5,000 VAS factory scan tool!

Does you have any other lights acting crazy on the cluster? Also you could just look up someone that has a Vag-com and meet up. Then you are only a few beers shy on the wallet. Changes are the ABS is bad (common) you can take the wheel liner out and reach the ABS unit. Take that out mail it and have it rebuild, you can have it remade for 200.00 all said and done.

Also 250.00 still isn't bad for what you can do....I kick myself for they used to be 150 for a full version.

It is a good deal, but I just dont need all the options it offers. I just want to check and clear codes. Its just a grocery getter. I have another car to play with.

Cole-let me know how that thing works out!! Who'd you buy it from?

Thanks for heads up on the abs, pson.

CEL on means its disabled that gives you unlimeted time to resolve the problem

My ABS light came on and it turned out to be a worn "arm" attached to the drivers front wheel so it was a mechanical part not an electronic part and cost £20.

I also heard that the sensors on the wheels are very sensitive so if you have recently had wheels/tyres/brakes changed or worked on then it may be worth checking.

good luck

Im confused here, can you explain? sorry.

The car was in an accident. Guy said he was doing 50 and rear ended someone. those bumper absorbers took a lot. I was impressed. Car drives straight though. So perhaps the impact screwed with the sensors? Id like to just reset them and see what happens.

Guy said the front end was tight before the accident, I was fearing the loose control arm deal, but when I drove it the other day, I felt some clanky clanky when I braked. Looks like it has it after all.
