I had the same air bag light problem last week. Short in a electrical connector in the left rear door. Took the dealer 2 hours to find it.

i'va had a 02 a6 for 4 months, my airbag light has been coming on for the last two weeks. i have a warranty so i'll be taking it in next week & will let you know what it turns out. it's got 75k miles...

Mine came on after taking it to a shop, they fiddled with something under the seat. Taking it back to them tomorrow.
