EDIT:  Well after 2 hours im very satisfied with how my tails came out!  A local tint shop did them and did a great job.  let me know what you think!!

I went with the tint mostly because I'm on a lease but it seemed more practicle than painting.  If I went the paint route it would have costed me 100$ more plus I would have to buy a new set of tails if I got pulled over or when I have to turn my car in.  With the tint, if I get in trouble for it I can have it taken right off without having to buy new tails or anything.

Cars a bit dirty :( Its been pretty windy down here so theres tons of dust blowing around.

ok, tint will look like garbage after a while, you either need to find covers for them or just buck up and paint them..... you should be able to sand it off, but do what you would like

If I remember correctly tail lights are cheap around $150 or less for a set. Just buy a spare set have one tinted/painted. When you turn in the car swap them and sell the tinted ones. Problem solved.

Edit: Ok a bit more expencive then $150 OEMPL.US has the euro ones for $169

Ok so I went in to talk to the guy and he said he would use a 2 coat special paint that turns out very nice and it is removable so im glad.  Quoted me 300$ I might ask around before I go with that but seems pretty fair.

Yeah, definitely go with the painting route.   I'm not sure about the price, but others can chime in with what they paid.

Cheers!

I had gotten a pair for my 01 Jetta and they looked great. the painting process is incredable. When you hit the lights you don't even know its painted. Best way to go! Been thinking about it for my A3 as well would love to see pics when you get it done. Oh and looked for pic must have deleted it a while ago.

Let me offer a different opinion...  I had mine tinted by a shop and they came out perfect.  No peeling, no bubbles.  I would agree not to try and tint yourself, but if you had a good shop do it, it would be fine.  I had mine done leaving a ring of the oem color around the edges and it looks great.  I haven't seen another one like it.

I used Lamin-X taillight film.  Its been on for almost 2 years, and still looks great.  You can even just pull in off when you are done with it.

They look great congrats. Just one question- Center break light on windshield? It looks fine w/o it but do u know how much more it would cost for that and if I do it I think I will use the same ppl. They did a great job and if its a tint they will look awesome in a couple of days when they dry.

Looks awsome gives us an update in about a month on how they are holding up. Oh now you need to debage or black out you baging and go with a completly stealth look.

I will! The shop hasnt had a problem yet with anyone's taillights and they have been doing it for quite some time.

I also had a question about debaging.  I would need to put them on when I turn my car in so how would I realign the badges perfectly?  Also what would you think about just blacking out the audi sign and maybe if they have  black 2.0T and A3 badges?

This is a very smart way that I've seen people have gotten the correct placement when debadging.

You're in L.A. right fusion?

Where'd you get it done and how much?

I got it done at Tintplus in laguna hills www.tintplus.com I think the address is there.  It was 200$ which I thought was a bit steep but it came out very good and they said they would fix it if anything went wrong so id rather pay extra for it to be done right.

If you have to turn the car back in you may just want to get a complete badge set and and paint them all black then replace them that way all badges are on at return. Oh and if your going to DIY I suggest going with Duplicolors paint for emblems. It works great, I used it on my last car
