I recently blew a rear speaker in my 2000 s4. The dealer mechanic took a look at it and said if i were to replace the speaker i would have to replace all the speakers in the car at the same time because of the way they are amplified. This seems kinda odd too me, does anybody know if this is true or not?

load of crap, i have never in my life, after selling and installing audio and video in cars have heard that. youre better off getting aftermarkets anyway, like some nice jl's or mb quarts.

Yeah his response is kind of crazy. If you have the bose system and you want to replace it with an aftermarket speaker then yeah you have to replace the whole setup because the bose run on 2 ohm.

Some people say that the BOSE sounds great once you add an extra amp to it... to power them to their full potential

Hmmm that makes no sense. Explain to me how you add an extra amp. I can see adding one and then connecting a sub to it.

the bose i have in my 96 a6 wag has 50w self powered speakers in each of the front doors
25w in each of the rear doors powered by the amp and a 100w sub.

Personally I don't know why you have to change your whole system just because you have a blown speaker. You should talk to other dealers and see what they say.

Speakers, bose or not, can be replaced individually. Done it many times without any problems.

Hey all, Just went through this with my wifes 2000 A4...it is true the speakers are specificic and to replace one with another Bose was $1100.00 FOR ONE! I like the stereo, but I dont like it that much. Stereo shop suggested an aftermarket speaker, but after a little tech inspection they discovered it was just a loose wire on the amp in the trunk...connected it and it sounds great...oh by the way they didn't charge me a dime for that, how ever they did charge me $500.00 for the XM connection and the new stereo in my truck.
