I could be just hallucinating, but I think I'm noticing a slight grinding (well more like rumbling) when I use my brakes, but it only happens for the few seconds right before I actually stop. I've had to replace breaks on a car before, so I know what the grinding sounds like, but this is my first Audi, so I'm not sure if i'm just imagining things or hearing the road or engine or what. It seems like it just started yesterday. Suppose it does need brakes, how much money am I looking at? Is this something that's ok to get done at Midas or should I go to a german car mechanic/audi dealer? It's still under warranty and only has 35K miles...should I be having break problems (if not are they covered under warranty)? Thanks in advance!

Is that manufacturer's warranty? I bought the car used so I'm unsure about what coverage I actually get...do I get the free servicing for 4y/50K miles too (like an oil change or new wipers?), or is that from a dealer when you buy a new car?

You should get free service except for tires.

I sometimes get the same thing in my Camry, when braking AND turning at parking lot speeds, but ONLY on worn tires. It's the ABS, in my case, being overly agressive in performing it's duty. If you've never done a full panic STOP!!! with ABS, you won't be familiar with the sounds/feel you get when it's doin it's thing. If your SURE it's not that, and you're still under warranty, take it back to the Stealer and have the service dept troubleshoot it for you. Betcha a nickle (US currence only) they tell ya it's *normal* for it to do what it's doin...

I don't think pads are covered under warranty or the extended service agreement.
Consider tie rods as a possible culprit.
Mine made a kind of knocking noise when they went bad.

if your car is still under warrantly audi dealers could change your brakes for you, I had like 50% sitll on my brake pads and I just told them to replace them.
