I was changing my oil today (2003 A6 2.7t) and noticed a piece that is broke where the oil filter attaches.

I searched the web and this site to see if I could find anyone with the same issue, but had no luck.

Does anyone know what this piece is for and if it is a big deal if it is broke/missing?

Thanks!

I know the oil has to go back into the engine here, but is it supposed to be completely open, it looks like there is a piece that was once there, now partially broken.

I did an oil change on the weekend - the flange of the oil cooler looks the same as yours.

Is this as it supposed to be or we have a problem?

2.8 and  1.8T engines have different flange - with 9 holes for oil circulation.

There is only one open hole (at 3 o’clock - the left one (9 o’clock) is plugged by plastic.

Anybody having schematics or personal observations?

Neither Etka, nor Elsa provide detailed view.

Have to check with dealers....

Surprised about the lack of feedback.

So many modds experts and such a lack of basic info

Thx,
