Except, I have the prototype so mine is chrome finished. Other wise, it's the same.

Any probhlems with dirty filters? I hear K&N require quite a bit of cleaning...
otherwise, you seeing the 18hp gains they mention?

do you have any pics of this installed. im considering a CAI but not sure on which one. course... i guess you have to actually HAVE an a3 to consider things, lol

There was a big power gain, and I'm sure that there quote of power increase is directly from the dyno of my car. So, I guess, under there tuning of the fuel and such, there was an 18hp gain. I haven't had any problems at all with the filter and I have only cleaned it once. That was after my car sat in the body shop for 6 weeks and the engine compartment was filled with gunk.

I dont think cai gives you 18 hp.
With exhaust, and cai you might get 6-8 hp, 18 is a little steep. (marketing ploy)

now did you keep the engine cover off for pic purposes or will it not fit with the cai on?

Auto parts sell a K&N filter cleaner, comes in a box. Two bottles of different chemical cleaner conditioner.
Remove filter from tube spray chemical on filter let it soak thru for some time (whatever box says) and then rinse with low pressure hose Add other chemical to protect and condition filter let dry completely and install. Cant mess it up.

18hp may be an exageration, but I don't think it's too far off -- forced induction gets much more gain from an intake than NA.

You have to ditch the stock engine cover to use any aftermarket intake with the 2.0T. The stock engine cover houses the OEM air filter and part of the intake ducting. A few people have cut their stock cover to fit with an aftermarket intake. Otherwise, Evoms makes an engine cover that retains the factory look but it is smaller to accomodate intake piping.

I have the AEM CAI, so my filter is actually down near the driver's side of the front bumper (so a pain to get to).
What's the normal schedule for cleaning it? I don't want to have to clean it more than needed - I have to take off the whole bumper.
Chef, did you notice your CAI wasn't as loud (doesn't make as loud WHOOSH WHOOSH noises of the turbo spooling) when it was dirty from the shop?
I've noticed my CAI is considerably more quiet than when I first got it .....

The Carbonio Intake doesn't require modification of the engine cover.

That's right, I forgot about that. Isn't Carbonio the one that was determined to basically be a fancied up version of the stock airbox?

The filter needs to be cleaned every 30k to 60k miles according to K&N. Get their cleaning and oil kit at any auto parts store and follow the instructions.
For the hp gain; I think that I have much more than 18hp with both the CAI and the Exhaust. Just 18hp from the CAI? I don't think so. They messed with my air and fuel settings which I needed to reset after their dyno and installation. I logged the car again, changed the settings and the car was running great. The TB exhaust was definitely the next best gain after the chip. Big gains from the TB, only very minimal gains from the CAI, but I'm sure that it helps the car breathe much better, especially with all of the modding I've done.

do what i did, i used a circular saw and just hacked the stock engine cover to make it fit. it looks ok, but i'm not doing it for looks, just trying to keep the heat in, and dust away from the engine block.

Looks good to me, Nam! I dislike the look of the 2.0T sans engine cover, and I see no problem with your handiwork.
I will probably just get the Evoms cover when I do my intake. I want to keep the stock cover in case I want to put it back on when I sell the car someday (never!) or if I need to go back to stock to take it in for repairs.
