TT Gomere

I have a 2001 TT 225hp with 15K. The story - the clutch pedal is on the floor and won't return to the neutral position. Pushing on the clutch pedal the car won't go into gear. I took it to the dealership and they said that it wasn't the master or the slave since the brakes work (Huh??). The entire clutch would need replacing (> $3000). My question - is this really the answer? If they replace it how do I know that this was the problem and not something simple? The car had no problems driving from Indy to Chicago except that the clutch pedal travel wasn't complete - wouldn't come all of the way back out at first but seemed to be alright by the time that I got home. No problems shifting during the entire trip. Please help!!

clutch fluid is not connected to the breaks in any way, check the slave cylinder for leaks chances are its stuffed and needs replacing not that hard and at $47 in one of those links I provided not that expensive either of course it will be hard to get to because its a TT
