I took my talents elsewhere. I have a distinguished Military career behind me. Three beautiful grown children. 1 failed marriage. I speak three languages. I'm a published poet. I've lived in, or visited something like 17 different countries on 3 different continents. I can pat my head and rub my belly AT THE SAME TIME!!! And, not only do I have a sucessful IT career ahead of me, I've the world on my shoulder. And, FWIW, I'll go with whatever crap I want. It's MY crap, goshdarnit!
Danica's facts are in the public domain. Mine aren't, so you can only offer conjecture about me. All of it unsubstantiated. Different opinions... Different ways of expressing them...

wow..go AWD!
and you have to remember that every different kind of racing is just that, different. Im sure that i could tree danika on the drag strip, because im sure that i have ALOT more experience than she does. on the other hand, ive never been in an indy car, so yes she woudl out do me at that....making "it big" in racing is 1 part skill, and 9 parts money.

Well, not quite sure what I said to set you off AWD, and why and admin feels to say GO AWD, so its pretty clear to me that this board isn't for me, so I guess I will go to another forum, sorry if I insulted anyone...

Hey, nuthin personal Thunder. Never was. believe me when I say you din't set me off. My vitriol is much more caustic than that.
You're as welcome here as anybody else. We're all grown (well, a few teenagers, but they seem qewl, so...) and try to mind our manners. I was simply defending my position. No matter the insults. They were slight. No cuts too deep. We bandy them about, on occassion. Take it all with a grain of salt, my friend.
Patrick's knows me (thru the forum), but probably din't know much "about" me, is all. FWIW, I only touched the surface. Hadda leave sunthin for teh next encounter.
I hope you stick around, Thunder. I'd feel bad if you left because of my acerbic wit.

thunder, i certainly wasnt rooting on anyone for a confrontational issue...i am Admin, and my job is to stop confrontation. While being here and talking to AWD, i had NO idea that he was so diverse...i had thought that he, like me just had a taste for cleavage and thongs, and was not so interesting...i wouldnt "team up on" anyone...everyone is welcome here...so long as you are here for the interest of being an audi enthusiast and enjoying your stay!

Ok...that was intertaining....
but to get back to the topic...
Having talent at driving at extreme speed in traffic, on public roads, and being a professional race driver, that qualified for Indy are completely different things. Different skills, only related by the fact that both take place in a car.
Being good at something at an amature level vs being good at something at a professional level are worlds apart.

So, what do you think about Danica Patrick. She seems to have a legitimate chance at Indy. She has a good team, car and skills.
I think she is going to need more experience before she can win Indy, but I think she has the potential, and has a really good shot at being the first women to win Indy. Maybe a couple of years down the line. It would be fantastic for the sport.
OK, for the RECORD, here's my official position on Danica:
I think it would be phenominal for her to win. I think more Americans (I'll allow the occassional Canadian, Spence) shoule be involved in open wheel racing here in America. The Indy has ALWAYS, since it's inception, attracted droves of foreign drivers. But I'd like to see a run of about 20-25 home-grown drivers win the big cup. It'd prolly be rilly cool if Danica were at the lead off hitter in this sweetest of rally's. BUT, I don't see it happening THIS year. I see her crashing out or breaking something before the halfway point. Stranger things have happened, though. Ya neva kno.
As to the POA thing... meh... not my type. to fast

No hard feelings here...I am not a huge fan of Indy, Nascar or really any form of racing, but when I catch it on TV I find Formula 1 to be the type that catches my interest the most, fast fast cars on street courses, now that sounds like fun.

she probably does have the potential but shes a newbie so i doubt shes gonna win, maybe on upper ladder but not winner.

While not UNPRECENDETED, rookies have only won in 8 of the 89 runnings of the Indy 500. The first few kinda skew the curve because, for teh first running the WHOLE FIELD was rookies. It wasn't a globally popular race way back then, ya know. Toss out the first five u=years and there've been just 5 out of 89.
So, Beginner's Luck:
Rookies who have won the Indy 500...
Year Driver
2001 Helio Castroneves
2000 Juan Montoya
1966 Graham Hill
1927 George Sounders
1926 Frank Lockhart
1914 Rene Thomas
1913 Jules Goux
1911 Ray Harroun

I grew up a fan of champ cars, but once I saw my first F1 car, I was hooked...and still am. F1 is just insane, the cars are insane, the sponsors, the organizing body, the crowds, the tracks, the press, the hype....it is the sureal life...and I love it. I'd rather watch an entire F1 race and see one pass for the lead, then watch NASCAR guys bump and push and pass back and forth all day long.
