so less than 40 bucks a month diff made you sell the stang?

the 1.8T is cheaper for several reasons... less hp, smaller displacement, far cheaper initial cost.

WTF is that and Y do you have it?

was that directed at me?

probably, but what does he know. he drives a pus-stang. HAHA

That Mirada could have a 360 small block mopar. If he just went and bought a crate motor he could have 380 hp,and 410 foot pounds of torque. Remember that is the starting point. I'm sure he is far beyond that. That is if he stayed with a small block. You know the "hemi" every one seems to be talking about. If they can fit one a real hemi in an "a" body chrysler they can shoe horn one in there. In stock trim, from the factory a 68 Hemi barracuda/hemi dart could run a real 10 secound 1/4 mile.

my entire drive line came out of a 69 cuda...its a 347 (340 +.030) cammed, but when i bought the motor, i coudl only afford emission pistons..so those went in, with 360SP ported and polished heads mopar 528 lift cam, roller rockers, edelbrock air gap intake 800cfm proform race carb with Bg bowls...410 gears right now, but the 456s have arrived and are in the box in storage with the car. fiberglass hood and trunk, electric fans, electric water pump, 3100 stall convertor, msd7AL ignition with a 6500 chip...flowtech headers through 3.5 inch flowmaster supercomp race mufflers...it tips the track scales at about 3700lbs with me in it, and next to no fuel. i have been running the engine untouched for about 5 years and the valve springs consistant 12.60s in a 3900lb car on 87 octane with DOTs and mufflers...it made for a healthy little daily driver until i moved away. i dont have room to keep it now, so my dad is racing it for now, once he gets the new bearings, springs, double roller chain, and gears in, and i have acquired a Zex kit, but i may hold off on that...ive been in mopar muscle magazine, mopar collectors guide, and the chrysler classics national series program from the entire season last year. we are expecting that with the gears and a new set of hoosiers that i will get into the low 12s...i know the bottle i have with the 75 shot would likely get me into the high 11s..if not better...but i dont want to burn nitrous in a block that was built in 1969.

oh, and i paid 500 bucks for the car, less than 500 for the paint supplies, and maybe 3g for all of the driveline components...we have estimated that i have less than 5 grand in the car, running in the mid to low 12s NA...PA inspection legal...and while i dont give much crdit to them, a computer dyno program stated my car somewhere around 500hp at the crank...once the new springs and whatnot are in, he will get it to the dyno...

and no one ever knows what it is, or what it will do until they watch me drive away on the track...

you runa .528 camshaft? how big is your exhaust?
Patrick
4/25/2005 9:57:49 PM
dave, i run a 528/294 camshaft
did you mean what size is my exhaust system or exhaust valves? im not sure because you asked about my cam...so..

my exhaust is comprised of 1 7/8 inch flowtech headers into a 4 inch collectors through 4 inch mufflers...with 4 inch outs...into pre-diff. outs....obviously all custom made of stainless because as im sure you can imagine, such as odd car doesnt have anyone making exhaust systems for it.

my exhaust valves are 1.67 with 1.88 intake valves, but we currently have a set of 340 J-heads being cut for 2.02 intake valves.

Great thread!! Some of you had some really nice first cars.

My 1st car was a 1971 Dodge Colt. It was actually a Mistu but Dodge imported it. I bought it bofore I could drive and did all the bodywork and paint on it.

About 8 months after I got it on the road I blew up the engine. A kid in my school had a brand new Camaro when they went to the F-body for the first time. His car was a 4 cylinder and Auto. I challanged him to a race in my 15 y/o car. I won!! He was pissed. 2 weeks later my engine blew. I guess he won.....

Then I got a 1967 Mustang to replace the Colt. It was the best car inthe world for a 17-18 year old to own. I beat the crap out of that car and it NEVER complained. I wish I still had it..

my new heads are 202/167, and will be ported and polished...188s are the stock size intake for the 340, although they are 360 heads..

I wish I still had my first car today, because I'd be stupid to beat up my audi the way I treated that car. Damn, good times

The stock intake valve size for the 340 is 202. That's what's in my 68 340 "x" head has. I think all 340's from 67 through at least 69 came with 202 intake valves and an "x" head casting. iirc.

i dont have X heads...i WISH i had X heads...the 340s came with U, J, X, and something else which illudes me at the moment...X heads were the best due to the valve size and port size/quality...i believe that the heads that i am having done are U heads..which were the worst of them,.but i got them very cheap...like i said..my car is being stored some 400 miles away....in a agrage full of parts....i have tons of heads, none of the hipo...and although my 360sp heads are ported and polished, they are still only 1.88s...my 340 block is a 69, but when i bought it, i didnt get heads with it...my block was a Steal from a moron who didnt know what he had...250 bucks with the crank and and rods..no pistons no caps...with a 727 tranny and the factory 69 cuda AC parts...which were sold immeadiately...
