Hey guys. I'm shopping for my first car, and I'd like it to have either a VW or Audi badge on the grille. There are no used Audis in my area, so I'm looking at VWs. So what's your opinion on this car? Is it really a VR6 model? I thought the all the VR6 versions got alloy wheels, but I'm not sure. Thanks for any help. 1999 VW Jetta VR6 5-speed.

I thought about that, but it could be a pic from another Jetta.

To CAB509, sure. If you'll loan me the money to buy the car.

then they would be a very cleaver scam artist, but I mean your gonna go check out the car before you buy it, I would assume, so you can always check the engine when you get there

Well, since you guys answered my question, how reliable are VR6 engines? And does the 1999 Jetta have the 12v or 24v VR6?

It is a 12v and they are more reliable than a 1.8t since there are less parts.  Not to mention that engine could easily be replaced for cheap if the engine is bad

Thanks. About how much will a set of alloy wheels from a newer Jetta cost me? Those hubcaps looks horrible.
EDIT: I just looked the car up on carfax, and it says it has a 30v VR6. That's not right, is it?

You are looking at a newer V6 Audi and not VR6.  The VR6 you are looking at is a 12V and the 01+ i believe are 24V.

scroll down on the first page and you'll see a for sale section, click on wheels/suspension and start looking, also craigslist might have some deals.

jetta = 5x100.  This is the same for all the transverse cars.  The longitude cars (A4/passat) use 5x112

graigslist. You might find a nice deal.

Thanks guys. I found a set of the stock 15s that normally come with an 01+ Jetta for $250. I might just buy them when I buy the car.

Why buy stock 15's? Seems like a huge waste of money.

I don't think I could find a set of aftermarket rims for $250 or less.
