Ok guys, I put a new exhaust on my Audi A4 2.8 Quattro....

Item:
Magnaflow 2" Hi Flow Univ Catalytic Converter X2

Item:
Magnaflow Muffler 5X8 Oval Street Series w/ TIPS 14816

Getting a BUZZZZZZ sound around 2500-3000 RPM

I have had it checked for leaks multiple times and there are none.

Is this the way this setup is suppose to sound?????????

I don't think so. Is your setup custom? I had an exhaust once that was installed and it hung a little too low causing a vibration, I took it back they moved one of the hangers up a bit and that fixed it. On another note, if your cat core has broken up, that would also cause a rattle too, but i'm guess that yours is new and probably not the problem.

Do you think it could be because of the high flow Cats VS the stock Cats?

nop its has nothing to do with stock vs afermarket Cat.

vibration somewhere on your exhaust line is causing the BZZZZZ or you will need a glasspack

by a "buzz sound" you mean something other than the exhaust tone itself right?  I know my magnaflow was fairly loud between 2000 and 3000 rpms.

i just got my exhaust done too and right around 3k rpm i have a noise its more of a rattle but its only when i put my pedal to the floor i think for me its just because i still have the stock muffler and there are restrictions

I removed my stock resinator and muffler, replaced it with a highflow resignator and a magnaflow exhaust.  Sounds super sweet in all ranges.  Although I do have a small exhaust leak before the cats where that stupid flex pipeing is.  Im going to get that fixed as soon as I get back from my vaccation.  Thinking about removing the cats and putting something else in, not sure if im going to go hi flow cats/testpipes/or glass packs.  What are your opinions?  Dont want it really louder just a bit more crisp.

its gotta be the cats, my buzz like a muther. but i also have a loose heatshield on top of the resonator. let us know if you find a fix, i can live with the rattle but its annoying.

Im starting to think its actually the resonator.

I had a friend rev for me and was under the car I think with this particular magnaflow muffler/ stock resonator its a bad combination.

Saudi can you do the same on your car and see if the sound seems to be coming from your reso or the cats?

I know that exhaust sound travels and im not convinced. But its def the cats or the reso...

And coleA4 can you also do the same test?

I think were onto something here......

Same sounds around the same RPM it might be that the reso will need to be switched. Because its restricted and then also the muffler restricts some. Im thinking its back prssure causing the noise from the combination of the exhaust setup.

Yea ill do it tomorow tell you where my noise is coming from but it cant be from my resonator because I dont have one . I wana do a magnaflow though, How did you reattach it to the hanger? do you have to weld that piece back on? I wish i could weld.

I still have that small rattle/buzz sound and I have an after market resinator.  I think its in the cats.

im uploading a video of mine right now but you can only hear my rattle when im in gear so you cant tell by this video it sounds good tho for just the stock muffler

coleA4

I do hear it in the video and it sounds just like mine and it sounds like killer bees in between 2500- 3k RPM range while driving.

So you guys also have the aftermarket cats?

I mean high flow is good for performance but im starting to think its a bad trade-off for the sound.

I think its confirmed high-flow aftermarket cats will let the bees loose on your ride.

ok i did the test yesterday, and it sounded just like coles car. although i heard 2 things theres was a ratling from the cats, but a small buzz from the resonator, but again i have a loose heat shield right above the resonator that may have been tapping on the resonator. so im gonna agree magnaflow cats start off good (really mad ethe car quite when i first put them on) but get an annoying buzzing later.

Screw it.  Weld 3 inch pipes straight from the minifold all the way back.  No more buzzing.

Maybe I jumped the gun a little on confirming....

Is there anyone on here with stock Cats w the Magnaflow muffler combination?

I mean im guessing, but i think if you have stock Cats your not getting the bZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

If someone can confirm this, then its almost worth it to pay the price for stock ones.

Yea those are so expensive though I'm gonna see what it sounds like when I put the new muffler on it. Either way i still love the sound minus the rattle.

If you have stock cats and the magnaglow setup....

Now it makes me think more back to the reso/magnaflow muffler...

hmmm I wonder if the reso is removed if the Bees fly away?

I really want to get to the cause of this sound because I cant stand the BZZZZZZZ

I looked at it more today and my cats arent making any noise its all my muffler.
