i was thinking about ordering a snub mount from 034 sometime this week or next, and i was just wondering for everyone that has one is it a good idea for a daily driver? is the engine vibration that much more noticable or do you just feel it a little more??

the vibration is definitely noticeable.

my vibrations actually just disappeared yesterday. dont know what thats all about, but im happy. and i took it on several drives to make sure it wasn't just a fluke like last time, and it seems to be gone.
people seem to have less problems with the apr one tho

Well, it looks like I should spend some time adjusting my snub mount bracket then. If it worked for you...

yeah i would definitely try it. i just slightly loosened the 3 bolts, revved it slightly a few times, let it idle for 5 min, turned it off. then tightened it down completely. vibration was still there but less than last time. drove it for a few days, vibration gone.

so do you guys regret doing it at all? im just not sure if i should wait to do it until the car is not a d.d. after reading your BT thread chaos, ive decided that ~450 hp is the number id be happy with so im sure i would have to put new mounts in at that point. im kinda just looking for a few things to get started with so when i have the money for the BT theres not a bunch of little things i forgot to do. my budget while still in school is about $150 a week, and im trying to get something new almost every week, but this week is brake pads, so i was thinkin the snub next week.

dont regret it in the least. even when it was vibrating. and if your does vibrate, you actually get accustomed to it. i didn't even really notice it stopped vibrating until i stopped hearing the shifter panel squeak and seeing the mirrors vibrating. and my system vibrates my car way more anyways

You have enough bass to get my girlfriend wet, right Brian?

Are you saying I'd get wet too? ... you'd like that, wouldn't you. I know you stared at that nude pic I sent you (

Anyways, to keep this on-topic... if you're doing motor-mounts, also considering doing transmission mounts (automatic users) and rear differential mounts, with your BAT upgrade.

you do know there's a difference between BT and BAT right? very few people on here are gona be going BAT
Leifer
3/3/2008 2:23:35 PM
Well, what do you consider BAT? I think that upwards 450chp is huge. A GT35R is definitely a BAT, even though it's considering a "medium-frame" turbo. This is relative to our cars, so I even consider a GT3076R a big ass turbo. Not a ghetto-booty turbo, just a white girl with curves that make a brotha go "whoaaaaaaaa". You know?

well i've heard even a 3071r called a BAT, but if its not offered in a T4 flange, i wouldn't really consider it a BAT. A gt35r, while its a montrous turbo for our little 1.8, its not that big.

In perspective to automotive as a whole? Definitely not. Then again, the GT3782 84trim 1.12a/r is a T3 flange, but it's got a flow capacity of 550+hp. Is that a BAT?

thats why i said OFFERED in t4 flange. each turbo usually has a few options

Oopsies, didn't see the offer of a T4 flange for that particular turbo. But still, I think the difference between a BT and a BAT, and even a BMFT is dependant on what kind of power you can get from supporting mods, and what you consider to be mammoth in power. Personally, I think that for a 1.8L engine that came stock with 150hp, an increase to 400hp is decently large.

yeah....well...I have a K03 w/ a T4 flage, now what?...lol
to the original post....
I would do motor/tranny and snub all at the same time...the snub will vibrate alot for about 1k miles and then it should turn into a pretty mild vibe (you will barely notice it)
besides that, you may also want to look into diff mounts as well, I have heard that it reallt cleans up the "hump" while shifting....
well, gl!

yeah i priced out some tranny mounts as well but those are a little pricy from what i found, and i never really thought about rear diff. mounts. the turbo i was most interested in was the gt2871r? i think it was. which isnt BAT but its some nice power. (im pretty sure thats the turbo i was looking at, it can produce ~450chp w/ mods right?)

hmmm....I would just replace the motor/tranny mounts with brand new oem mounts...two OEM motor mounts will run you 100 and two OEM tranny mounts will run you 40
although 034 makes their own aftermarket stuff, they seemed a bit much to me, but my audi is my DD and I never go to the track or autocross, just school and work...lol
I do have a Stern snub, and I really like it so far, there is a noticeable difference in vibration at idle, but I don't mind it.
you should look into a t3/t4, they are easier on your internals and can push enourmous power
well, gl!
and yeah, I have yet to replace my rear diff mount, but I have heard that the aftermarket on does help ( I think it is also made by Stern through purems.com)

yeah im not 100% sure what turbo setup im gunna go with but i would like to have power somewhere between 400-450whp. i also plan on letting the car see plenty of track time once its all set up, thats kinda what i like to do for vacations, is just find an open track day thats somewhere i can drive my car to and spend a few days haha.
i gotta go and talk to my tuner if i ever get a day off and start really looking into the details of how much its gunna be, and what i can do and what i would need him to do, cause i dont have the tools or experience to attempt this all by myself the first time. dont get me wrong ill be there through every step, but im not gunna try everything in my driveway (not to mention then my parents would start asking questions haha). i mean for once in my life im not worried about spending the extra cash to get this done right, but im not trying to just get the most expensive set up cause that takes away from money for other mods like coils, wheels & tires and the tranny. (and yes i know a new clutch is the first thing on my list.)

theres really isnt any vibration with 034 unless you ordered their snub bracket the stock bracket is way too small for the 034/greedspeed snub (same thing just cheaper with greedspeed) i also noticed that i had to pull the bracket down until the top of the snub was touching the snub otherwise it pretty much just had too much slack on top, i dotn feel much vibration although there is some but thats more likely due to the track density mounts in my car.

^i think you messed up a few words in there. the stock bracket is too big. and how does the top of the snub touch the snub?
i think what you were saying is you used the stock bracket with the greedspeed snub, and then pulled the bracket down enough so the top of the bracket is touching the top of the snub and then tightened it down. is that right? if so, thats an interesting solution.
cause i tried running the 034 snub with the stock bracket and it had some major engine movement problems, but it had a small gap between the snub and the top of the bracket.

well i pretty much threw this idea out the window today when i went down to my tuner and started talking real business. my goal is ~370 hp on pump and ~450 on race. after talking with them for about an hour(and missing a class

) i think i pretty much decided on what im doing. im basically gunna have the entire motor rebuilt, from the bottom up, im probably gunna go with a GT30 or bigger series turbo, new pistons, rods, rebuilt head ect. their gunna tune it (unitronics) and im gunna get a new FMIC and piping, as well as a t.p. and a muffler(yes im finally sick of the open pipes). theres a ton of other things their gunna do to the engine, including the mounts(they were saying s4 mounts would be fine)and im probably gunna get coils, and a new clutch was on the list too. the total price for EVERYTHING is about 11k. id say thats pretty reasonable considering the price for all the parts is around 9k. as of now everything is still just words, and by the summer ill know a lot more about what im doing, and when its gunna happen(just waitin on the check haha)
now all i gotta really think about is if i wanna have 400+ hp on pump gas, then they were talking about a GT35 turbo at least.

wow, sounds intense....I am going to have to say that you may be better off with another car possibly....for this money and your car you can have an S4 with twin Ko4s
sounds hectic....
aren't S4 motor mounts the same as A4?
