Ok,  So I decided to mount my Navigation unit to a 15" stalk that I fixed into the bolts on the left side of the passenger seat.
Here are 2 pics (sorry I know the pics suck... but all I have to take them is my camera phone until I get my digital back from a friend)

Anyway...  I now want to hardwire the unit and was curious if anyone knew of the closest place to do so that will provide power only when the car is on.
I already hardwired my radar detector using the fuse tap method and could do the same for the NAV, but was hoping there was something closer so I don't have to figure out how to get the wire all the way to the fuse box without being in the way (or visible)...

I have the iPod hookup in my glove box, is there a wire I can use from that??

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I promise to post some quality pics when available!

You could run a wire under the center console from virtually anywhere and have it exit right next to the seat bolt and run up the stalk. I think the cigarette lighter/12v outlet in the console is constant, so that's probably no good. You could pull switched power from the radio, but be sure to check the draw from your GPS and make sure you're not overloading the line. Otherwise, you could run another fuse tap and pull the wire under the console as stated.

So what's the deal with the pic in your sig with the factory nav?

My dog... not my car!
I wish I could have gotten that upgrade but it didn't work out.
The main reason I got the A3 instead of something else was so he would have some room... so I figured I owed it to him to have it in my sig.
