Thanks! Ive been in love with the car and the color for like 4 years but was never able to afford one until now. I was think about getting new diverter valves from
here. Do you think that those would be a good choice? Im also going to order that samco hose set as my first mods(if you want to call them mods..lol) to the car. Next will be the apr chip with their intercoolers. Im new to this car(I had an all motor acura rsx with cams and junk) so I dont really know what should be done to it.

Baileys are a very good choice. AWE is a great vendor with which to do business, too.
Remember to service the DV's every 10K miles or so.
Your "first" mods are good to start with - you're doing the safety route first. Make sure the car has synthetic oil - if not, change it now and get a new filter, too. Learn to understand the sound of the turbos. Your ears are the best gauge for their proper performance until you get other instrumentation to help.
Did the car come with any mods?

hey imolas4 im a newbie , my s4 has a whistling problem whenever i get into it, it makes a high pitch whistling sound from the turbos, and also hesitates between 3500-4000 rpms. hollerback if u have any solutions.

Wooops!
Let's get the background before we jump to any conclusions.
1. What year?
2. How many miles?
3. Did you buy it used?
4. Any mods?
5. Describe the whistling noise in detail - loud dentist drill or whirring sound?
6. When do you hear the whistle - acceleration, at steady speed, deceleration?
7. Where do you hear it coming from - left, right, both/center?
8. Is your hesitation a "hiccup" (a kind of jerking motion) or does it level out between 3500-4000 rpms when accelerating?

2000. 65k miles . hiccup hesitation. loud dentist drill sound, starting on the passenger side i think

i have multiple misfires, also when i let up while iam hesitating the car goes bang . feels like i am breaking the mount.

my chip worked great for a day then the turbos started whistling

oh yeah the whistling only happens when i accelerate around 2200 rpms.

Hate to say it incredibusxx, but it sounds like a classic blown turbo. The passenger side turbo is prone to go first.
If the bang sound is within the engine, then you've got big issues. If it is outside the engine and more like it's coming from the driveline, then you probably have a broken mount.
I take it that you don't have a boost gauge. Have you had it VAGed for codes?

the banging is from outside the engine, my vag codes are maf too high, multiple misfires, something about bank 1 exhaust 2 hot

no i dont have a boost guage on the vag i run 19.7 mbar in third gear whatever that means.

Wooooops!
19.7mbar is barely 0.3psi
My guess is the MAF is too high because the turbo can't keep up its end of the equation.
Is it fair to assume that you have noticed a severe drop in power/performance overall?

you got it, i lost alot of performance. so what dou think of the speed tuning chip? and how much mbar is 1.2 bar?
ImolaS4
7/26/2004 11:49:00 PM
Sorry, EDIT: 0.3psi
mbar just means millibar.
1 mbar = 0.001 bar = 0.014503774 psi
1.2bar = 1200mbar
I don't know the speed tuning chip.

hey iam going to be getting ko4s installed what are the best ones and with the giac chip and an rs4 clutch at 1.2 bar what kind of horsepower or 1/4 mile times am i gonna get?

You'll be in the 420-450hp range with a full RS4 KO4 kit. 1/4 mile times will be around 11 seconds - but that will be up to the ability of the driver - I've seen full KO4 setups horribly driven that turned in 12+ second times, too!
