I am sorry in advance for the crappy small pictures, as they are not my own. But this will tell you how to eliminate the CEL after installing a test pipe/gutting your cat.

What you need:
1 package of spark plug non-foulers. 18MM

So you have here your basic spark plug non-fouler, it is orignally used to recede your spark plugs out a bit so they dont foul from a rich condition

What you have to do is drill out the inside of the top part, so the o2 sensor can fit. ONLY DO THIS TO ONE OF THE NON-FOULERS
side by side comparison of drilled out nonfouler and original

02 sensor fit inside

Screw the two nonfoulers together with the undrilled one will have threads showing on the outside.
Then attach it to your post cat o2 sensor (you will have to remove it )

Then screw it back into the test pipe, reset your cel code, and drive away!

If you have problems , let me know.....

Is that on the rear O2 sensor that you need to do that on. The one furthest away from the cat?

EDIT: Very nice DIY

buck up and pay $300 just to clear a code?

I would think the justification in a vag-com comes not only from code reading/clearing but from logging blocks on your ECU.

at any rate.. why not spend the $5 and a few hours (could be less if you know what your doing) to do this? Then you dont have to putz around with the vag com in your car everytime to code comes back, and it will.

Disconnect your negative battery cable... that will clear it.. but make sure you have your radio code..
