Since i bought my car used ('01 2.7T Quattro) the first couple oil changes has been done by the ex owner the car currently has around 51K. The dealer recommends me to change the oil every 10K is this safe??? i've always been doin 3000 mile oil changes in my ex car.

I have an 01 2.7T. I change the oil every 3000. I have 48k on the car. I run Mobil One synthetic and wouldn't use anything else. As far as I am concerned, oil is cheap insurance (even Mobil One) in order to protect all parts in your engine. The engine is the most important part of your car. Changing the oil every 3000 will keep your engine working great. I DO NOT agree with leaving oil in a engine 5k or 10k miles. That is just plain stupid. I don't care if the manufacturer's even tell you that you can do it. What's an oil change with Mobil One (7 quarts on turbos) ... maybe $65-70. CHEAP INSURANCE !!!
