Raced a stock A3 2.0T MT

Finally!
I had the privledge to race one of the cars I was dying to race. It happened on the way back home from the gym. I left early cause I felt like crapness since I skipped 4 days worth of gym time. Nevertheless, the gods made my queasiness disappear once a bright red 2.0T A3 appeared.
I started tailing him, purposly missing my exit to see if he was a stocker... he was!!! I then looked for an opportunity to come up to him side by side trying not to let my exhaust give it away but the traffic wouldn't yield. Then finally 3 lanes clear for about 3/4 of a mile. He starts to get on it and I soon follow... easy win.
To make it better, the light turned red and we were both stopped waiting. He begins to taunt me by showing me he's a manual. I'm reminded of the time Nam burned me real good but that didn't bother me. Today I'll prove how much of a difference a chip + exhaust can make. I taunt him back by revving slightly and jumping forward a few inches. The light then turns green, I do my best to give him a 6 second launch to 60mph and I succeeded. I look back and gained at least 7 cars. I slow down a bit to let him catch up but I guess I have too much distance. Boy was that fun
So there you have it. My dumb attempt to compare a chipped A3 and a stock A3. But basically the moral is a chipped a3 will give you around a 7 car advantage and a chipped a3 will beat a stock a3.

Nice Kill
that A3 driver probably doesn't even know anything about chipping or moding!!!! but i'm sure he'll find out soon....... that'll be funny if he finds himself on this forum and reading this thread!!!!! but SEVEN CARS?!?!?!?!?!?? at 60mph? awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
i wanna race A3Night at a rolling of 55mph to see how much i lose by by 100mph
damn, i haven't ran my 93 octane in a while, i have an urge now!!!!!

I'm still stock besides a cold air intake. I'll race you A3Night

I still got 2k more miles until I'm going to get chipped.
7 car lengths??? Wow .... I wonder if the guy just didn't know how to drive. Just cause he's got a stick doesn't mean he knows how to use it.

A3Night, what kind of exhaust you have on yours?
Man ya'll giving me the urge to get exhaust on my car after chipping it..urgghh.

It could be a combinaiton of things. DSG in the end shifts faster than a manual but is difficult to launch. I basically have to launch about 1/3 of a sec before the light turns green to actually get the car to move once the light switches.
Urges suck. Everyday I'm killing my MPG by having acceleration sprints. I really need to STOP but I cant
I have a APR turbo back exhaust. Def worth it... do it do it!!!

i've yet to see another A3 on the road since i bought mine...chipped, stock, 3.2, 2.0 or whatever. I've got a rather unique car!

you're young once, right? I'll probably get the exhaust early next year after my big bonus. Where did you get your APR turbo back exhaust at, A3Night??
Is yours loud? I want one that gains HP but not loud, so it wont kill the luxury feel Audi has, ya know what i mean.

I'm 23. graduated last year in a real good job. Soo... I need to spoil myself as I suffered a lot in college.
You can see my hardships and review with the exhaust here... with a video
http://www.audiforums.com/m_304474/tm.htm After about about 3000 miles with the exhaust, its loud, BUT OH SO MUCH FUN!!!
If you want the luxury feel, then this is probably not for you as it is loud. I've heard the stealth option is not much quieter. Come down to our next meet and I'll give you a demo.

boywonder.......... obviously you haven't riden in a chipped A3 yet, the performance is sooooooo much greater than a stock A3, i'm walking about 30% increase in hp and 50% increase in torque to the wheels, so no matter how good of a driver that stock MT A3 driver is, he'll ALWAYS get at least six carlengths behind from 0-60 against a chipped/exhausted A3.
Audi28XWJ.......... APR sells a stealth exhaust, which is just a tad bit quieter than the normal exhaust, but the hp gains are not as great due to restriction in airflow
hope to see more A3's at the next gtg........ i wanna see a 3.2 show up sometime!!!!!
Falcompsx............ yeah we have pretty unique cars, i've only seen about 4 A3's driving around san diego since i got it in July of 05.... one of which i raced, he was stock, easy kill.

yes, we do have unique cars, just the way I love it. I get compliments everywhere I go, esp. in Orange County and LA/Beverly Hills area, and I'll reply with I like yours too, since they drive M3s and S classes.
Actually just last week, back from my Lunch to work, a Z4 pulled up next to me and wanted to race. I gladly declined since I havent done anything to my car yet.
Loving the audi's man..

Hmmm... Picking on an unchipped A3, eh?
For those of you who don't have first-hand experience, A3Night's exhaust is REALLY loud. In my last job, I have had rides in D-1 drift cars during D-1 practice sessions. A3Night's exhaust is almost as loud as the ones on those drift cars (one of which caused me a ruptured eardrum when I exited, but that's another story). But his exhaust sounds really good. When he's decelerating, it burbles like a rally car. Unfortunately, my wife is less tolerant than his re: these sort of things.
After hearing his exhaust, I called APR to inquire about the resonated version. I said I would only buy one if it was less than half as loud as the non-resonated version. APR said the resonated version is only maginally quieter than the non-resonated version. I guess you need a real muffler to cut a significant amount of noise.
Then again, we could realize a major portion of the gains from a turbo back exhaust by getting only the downpipe. So far, I have found only one that would work with the stock exhaust. No need to update APR software either. But note that it is NOT CARB exempt, for those in CA and the Northeast.
http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=6169_6210_6211_6520 Against a Z4, it would be interesting. I have beaten a few 330i's (most ppb stock and automatic transmission). The same engine in a lighter car with a stick would make quite a difference though.

so by getting only the downpipe works as well as getting the turbo back exhaust?
Yeah, I hoped to see the Z4 sometime again in the future when I have chipped the car.

I'll probably come to next months gtg, this month i'll be out of town, but next month i'll try to make it. I'd like to see some mods people have done to the A3's to get an idea what direction i want to go. I'm thinking of going APR chip and full neuspeed setup, but its kinda pricey so we'll see. for now, stock is great.

"a major portion of " ≠"as well as". It's basically like this...
Generally, on a street-legal turbo car, the stock turbo-back exhaust includes two major parts, i.e., the downpipe (the pipe leading from the turbo and through the catalytic coverter or the "cat"), and the cat-back exhaust (the pipe leading from the cat, through the muffler, and out the tailpipe).
Two factors make the downpipe more important than the cat-back:
1. The exhaust gas has more energy at the turbo than further down along the exhaust.
2. On most cars the downpipe is more restrictive than the cat-back. (Especially true for A3 2.0T)
Thus, if you only want to change one part, upgrading the downpipe alone gives better gains than changing the cat-back alone, but not quite as much as upgrading both parts. From what I see on the market, the downpipe costs about the same as the cat-back. You could even argue that if you have already upgraded the downpipe, the gains from upgrading the cat-back is not worth the costs.

I agree with Jason. It's just mean to pick on one of our unsuspecting brethren.
Now, I have race a stock 2.0T A4 recently. He didn't fair very well either.
Cheers!
