Keep in mind you may still ask to buy the car back from the insurance co.  I did that once.... paid $1300 for a Mustang, drove it for about 2 years, got hit, collected an $1100 insurance check and bought the car back for $200 then sold it a week later for $500.
 
You could make a fair amount of money by parting it out... just a thought
