hesitation in the morning
was wondering if someone can help mw with this one....
just bought a 2001 quattro, in the morning before the car is warm, it hesitates in all gears.. any idea what could be causing this? also what is the avg mielage everyone is getting out of this car ? I'd love to fool around with some minor mods myself, are there any easy things to do that a beginner might try?

nobodys addressed his question yet...
I've had hesitation/studdering recently, before the car was warmed up. In my case, it was because of boost/vacuum leaks.
A little background:
Right after the air filter theres a mass air flow sensor. Once air passes that, it's accounted for. Any leaks in the system that let more air in, or let that air out throws off your fueling. These cars run kind of rich, and on startup, run even richer. If you have a boost leak you're going to run EVEN MORE rich, and it gets to the point theres too much fuel to burn well, and the car hesitates.
You can buy or build a boost pressure tester using some PCV parts and an air fitting, or even a valve stem for a tire.
This is one of those tools you'll use time and again. Everyone should have one.
www.modshack.info look on there for the boost tester. You can buy it if you're not comfortable building one yourself, but you'll be spending 4X as much as you need to. You can build one for around $12. Hardest part is matching the diameter of the tester to fit the turbo inlet hose (you'll be unplugging that MAF sensor after the airbox, and clamping the tester there)
