swapping in a manual just wasnt as cost effective as upgrading the tip...and you dont see to many GT30r tiptronic cars driving around

didn't ur friend (or was it brother?) swap in a 3071r w/out upgrading the tranny? how's his holding up?

The 30r is the 3076r.  Also, there was no need to spend the extra $80 for the ported cover.

Will be nice to actually have control of your car finally

Who said "he" paid $80 extra for the ported cover? I am going to guess that he bought shawn's GT3071r setup seeing that is shawn's picture from his for sale thread on AZ.

yup his car held up fine with the 3071r on the stock tranny for 4 months at 19psi. he downgraded to a 28rs because he didnt like the lag and it was his daily driver

yes this is a pic of shawn's turbo. if everything goes well i'll probably buy his turbo and entire kit. i'm not sure if the DP will work though since he is B6 and i'm B5. I used his pic because that is the same exact turbo i'll be purchasing ported/polished cover and all I just dont know if it will be from him. If not i'll be buying it from either you or mike

The B6 DP is about 4" longer then the B5's so it might need to be cut down to fit. We tried installing a B5 Full-race dp on a B6 and it came up 4" short. The B6 dp outlet also faces straight back while the B5's tend turn toward the driver side of the car since thats the way our exhaust runs down the car. I also think there is a difference between the manual and tip dp's but I haven't sold any full-race dp's to a tip guy owner yet.

Didnt know he used someone elses pick Mike, my bad.  Still doesnt need a ported shroud on a 3071r since its not going to surge.  So if he doesnt buy the used turbo, dont waste the money on it.

Its cool. Yeah I dont offer a ported shroud for the 3071r, but it is standard for the 30r. Some people complain about surging on the GT35r on the 1.8t but I dont get it on my 2 liter setup and either did my friend on his 2.3 liter evo. I think it might just be that it surges when running very low boost on a 1.8-2.0 displacement, but then who goes 35r to run low boost.

The .63 will surge with a stock small port head and manifold.  With increasing the head flow with intake manifold or increasing displacement gets rid of it.  The ported cover helps, but you really need the other stuff done to eliminate it completely

Yeah, just better to have a better flowing head anyway since it kills 2 issues in one shot. Basically the ported shroud is just a bandaid for a flow restriction at the head.
