The brakes on my 2007 A3 squeaked when it was almost new, pretty much stopped and are squeaking again with about 16,000 miles. The squeak is like a wear indicator but just too soon for that. Anybody have the same experience or solution?

I have the same problem with my '07 A3.  The squeaking started after I reached 12k.  It's not consistent.  The dealer checked the break pads and said they are perfectly fine.  It continued again and now they admit that there was something wrong with the break pads in the 2006 model where the pads had a 6 month or 6,500 mile warranty.  I think the service guy said there's no warranty for the '07s.  After expressing my dissatisfaction, he said he would check with the manufacturer to find out if anything can be done.  I'm not sure where this is going.  My car is less than 9 months old and I've had several problems with it.  Thankfully all the problems were taking care of by the warranty but I'm not sure if I want to keep this car once the warranty is over.  I love the A3 design and driving experience but it's sad that there's this many problems.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm not alone but based on the response it is not a common problem.

The pads are glazing over.  Go out to an isolated spot and beat the piss out of them.  Do several 60-5 slowdowns, without coming to a complete stop.  I occasionally get the brake squeal and doing this takes care of it.

There is a similar thread over on fourtitude, with a lot more information

Edit:  Here is the thread.

Thanks for the info!  Now you'll know what I'm going to try this weekend.

2007 MY for me, with 12,000 miles.  Squeaking just started for me.  I wonder if it's weather related.  Sounds like I get to have some fun this weekend!!!

I just noticed a squeak yesterday.  But mine could also be from the front anti-sway bar as it rotates in it's mounts.  Not sure yet if it's the brakes or anti-sway bar mounts.

Okay.

I must use my brakes very liberally, since I never have the squeek problem.   Just goes to show that my, "drive it like you stole it", saying works!!!   LOL

Cheers!

This isn't how you stop at every light?

Depends on how much traffic is around, and if the car in front/back of me happens to be driven by a jackass!
