okay so i had the labree high flo cat and miltek down pipe (2 3/4inch) but i was using the stock exhaust...i was getting TERRIBLE gas mileage...so i got an amazing deal on a 3 inch straight pipe so i got it hooked up...and yeah HUGE improvement! alot less back pressure and im gettin 60 more miles to tha tank and there is a difference in the holding boost..but i sound like an SRT-4 (kind of love the garggle it has)

now before you watch this i only TEMP have a side pipe until i find a 3 inch muffler i like!! (also i was already driving the car about a half hour so its all warmed up)

Awesome shoes, but it's not possible to improve gas milage on A4's EVER.

I know that sound all to well...very loud. Drowning when your just trying to do the speed limits. Welds broke on factory punched-out cat before upstream o2.  I had to coast past cops at intersections in fear of niose violations. But really cool to hear the turbo in such a raw state.

haha my uggs i was going to tha store mad early im not going to bother getting dressed
compared to what i was gettin (210 miles to tha tank!) im now gettin average 280 miles to tha tank so its not better mileage as more as its average again haha

nah man get special purple fluid and its totally possible to get 50mpg.

and the vid sounds kinda like my car when i take off my muffler, only not as deep cuz i have a tp. the turbo spool sounds crazy tho.

Yeah my S4 has straight pipe on it and it sounds amazing.
i just did the same thing to the A4 earlier in the week and damn it was wayyy too loud! I ended up throwing a glass pack in there which toned it down to the point where i could drive, but it still has that growl that i like.

You think thats loud you should hear what a 2.0GT35r sounds like with NO exhaust :)

3" is really over kill for anyone running anything smaller then a GT30. A 2.5-2.75" setup would be much better for the smaller turbo setups.

why would a 2.5" be better? after the turbo larger is better but larger also means more sound
Mike@DTH

Yes it is better to a point, but if bigger was better shouldn't we just be skipping the 3" and going with 4"? ;)

3" is only going to be better if 2.5"-2.75" is a restriction by causing too much back pressure, but just because you go 3" doesn't mean more exhaust is getting out or the system has better flow seeing that exhaust expands, when it expands it gets cooler and slows down. So the key is finding the right size exhaust to keep velocity up without causing too much back pressure.

i have a 2 3/4 labree high flo cat and miltek down pipe...then i have the 3 inch pipe still think i shud try to go smaller??? cause with the 2.5 i think there was to much back pressure and i was getting TERRIBLE gas mileage with the inch theres a nice garggle and such haha

you should be fine by that, the 2.5" cat should create enough back-pressure to work well

what exactly makes the garggle sound though??

Does it happen when you let off the throttle?

Not having enough to absorb it like an extra resonator.

Sounds like when I disconnected my exhaust so there was no resonator or muffler, it hurt my ears doing 35 and keeping the rpms at 2000.

no dont go smaller. y would you want more back pressure?

if you are over exausted, you will actually lose power, there is a size that works best for every engine/setup.

Exactly. Just like you match the correct size IC pipes and FMIC to the size turbo and air flow it is moving.

i dont think you will lose power just it gets to a point where you wont gain anymore by increasing size.

Well having a 3 inch exhaust on lets say a stock k03 wouldn't decrease the horsepower per say, but the lack of backpressure would decrease the amount of torque the engine would produce, which would reduce 0-60 times.
I personally wouldn't put a 3 inch on mine un-less im running a 2871r or bigger.
