Hi.  New here.  I've been spending some time on the forum lately with the intention of buying an Audi.  Found one a week ago, a 1996 A6 Quattro.  187,000 miles but runs wonderfully.  I had a 1986 5000 CS Quattro some years back and since my son is learning to drive, felt an Audi would be a vehicle I could feel comfortable having him drive.  Safe and forgiving, especially with the snow and ice that is typical here.  Anyway, I appreciate seeing how you help one another out with issues and problems.  I do have a question, however.  I need to get a shop manual for the car.  I've seen Bentley manuals available.  Are these the manuals that would be recommended?  And since I'm here, the driver's door will not release from the inside.  I've noticed a few posts explaining how to remove the door panel, but they don't seem clear to me, or perhaps don't apply to my vehicle.  I need to get the panel off, but certainly don't want to damage it.  Any help would be appreciated!  Thanks.

Before you tear the back door off make sure the child lock is off. When I brought mine home after buying it I took some friends for a ride and one of the back doors wouldn't open from the inside. I was pissed to begin with and ready to take it back to the dealer but then I found out it was the child lock. Its a little white switch under the latching mechanism on the door.
As for the Bentley, I think most people that buy a repair manual get that one. A lot of information can be found over at www.audizine.com , www.audidiy.com , and of course this site (its the best )

Hopefully that helps
