So my turn signals have been very unreliable for the past year. Most of the time they dont work at all but sometimes Ill get lucky and get a blink or two out of them. Could it be anything other than the turn signal switch causing my problem?? I need to order this part ASAP and im gonna be pissed if i order the part, install it, and come to find out my turn signals still dont work.

By not working you mean that the turn signal just constantly goes on without blinking right?

Ya like when i hit my turn signal they dont come on. My emergency flashers work tho so the bulbs and everything work fine. I had this same problem on my 96 A4 and i replaced the turn signal switch and they worked fine.

Replace your Hazard Signal Relay Switch. I think the part is about 20-30$ at the dealer. That happen to me last year and thats what was wrong with it. If you got a friend with the same car, switch them out and you can check it that way.

If it had something to do with the hazard signal relay switch wouldnt the hazard lights not work also???

My hazard lights work fine.

It's still probably the hazard switch.  When it starts to go bad, it gets really flaky and you can't discount it as being the cause for any reason.  If there's a salvage yard near you grab one there.  It'll take five minutes to replace.

I cant remember but didnt Audi have a Recall for the B5 model Ignition. There was something wrong with the ignition which caused the electronics to play up like the wiper and turn signal , etc etc.

How does one replace the switch? I have the exact same problem.

It's the turn signal relay. VAG engineers were smart and they put two relays in it, one for the signals and one for the hazards. That way, when you get in an accident for not signalling, you can put your hazards on when you're pulled over by the side of the road. It takes 5 minutes to change it.

Problem solved for me. Didn't realize it just pried out. Took 30 seconds.

Mine did the same thing. Hazards worked fine but no turn signals. just replace the swithc and all will be well.

yeah it is really easy. You have to take off the trim that surronds the switch. When you do that be easy because the clips are pretty week that hold it on. but if you break any off you can just reglue them. I took out my radio just to give me a little more room but you really dont need to if you dont want too. here is a DIY  http://www.audiforums.com/m_146946/tm.htm

Don't even have to do that.  Just pull the radio out (don't unplug it, just slide it out), reach up under the hazard switch, push up on the bottom of it, and the top will pivot out toward you.  Pull it out, unplug and replace, push it back in the dash, and slide your radio back in.  Done.

ok so what if i have a 7" screen instead of my factory radio. Because that doesnt exactly just "pop out" like the factory radio..

It comes out easier since you don't have to unlock it.  Do you have a motorized retracting screen?  If so, no sweat - that's what I have.  If you have a screen that doesn't fold away, but is flush mounted, then it may be more of a pain.  Still, to take the surround off, don't you have to remove the console to access the lower bolts that mount the surround?  I can't remember for sure, but if so, you're probably still doing less work just by removing the screen.

This forum is alot of help, had the same problem and found the answer within 30 sec and didn't even need to post a new thread.

I got one question, where's a good store to buy this part online for cheap? (Has to be same part you would get at dealer)

Or, does the dealer have an acceptable price on this part?

UPDATE!

I replaced my hazard switch and BOOM, turn signals are back on. If you played with legos as a kid than this installation is cake, lol.

the part was $35 at my local junk yard, and labor took MAYBE 60 seconds. Easy fix.
