Looking for an opinion or two...

My '97 2.8 has a nasty vibration (intermittent, but persistent) that the shop diagnosed as a bad driveshaft, with a part quote of $1800.
My clutch is on its way out too (140,000k mi), which he says is $2500 more.

I took it to the dealership for another opinion and they fixed a bad CV joint which fixed some, but not all, of the vibration. It took 50mi to come back but it did.

The guy I took it to first might have diagnosed the problem(s), but isn't that excited about working on it (rust) and thinks the clutch can wait. Wouldn't you do them both at once? Do the numbers sound right? Should I just take it back to the dealer?

Any ideas? Thanks!

When I had a bad vibration it turned out to be tie rod ends.
Take it to a good front end shop for diagnoses:

> tHe kNiGHt FaLL, wheel bearing failures were quite common on older (90's ) Audis, BUT when
my front wheel bearing went, it did Not cause any vibrations, just made a low noise.

Ouch, hopefully that was an abnormalidy (?)... my '95 90 2.8 with over 175k miles, still has 3 original bearings, front right was changed 2 yrs ago.

Was yours covered by warranty ?
