hey everyone so im in a little pickel. so a few months ago i bought an 1998 a4 2.8 with an s4 bumper and bilstien coils and those were the only mods done to it. as much as i do love my car i am now thinking that i should have gotten a 1.8t and what do you know i have found one on good ol craigslist. its the same color and already is modded some of which i like other things not so much you can see in the link below. so the cost for the 1.8t is 10,500 and i bought mine for 8,500. i have been thinking about selling my car in order to buy a 1.8 and this seems like a good oppurunity, but before i do anything rash i figured i would ask the experts hahaha. thanks alot everyone and everything you guys say will help

if you get it get ride of that exhaust, but I'm kinda thinking the same thing of selling my v6 for a 1.8t
but in exelent condition 98's should only be around 8-9. with mods, because they don't count towards the value of the car

if your happy with everything thats done to your car now then keep it. if you want more mods like most ppl on here do, i would go for the 1.8T. im learning theres endless things to do to the 1.8
*+1 for ditchin the fart can a.s.a.p.

I looks good (minus the exhaust, and not having a hood strut) but it's hard to tell how it's been driven. Always take it to acouple of qualified mechanics before you buy anything.

i like the car but i don't like the price. i really wouldn't pay that much for it especially if you just want a car. as tempting as that car is, my money is more important lol. i'd see if he's willing to talk. if you want to get rid of that stuff you would have to buy the factory ones to put in again or whatever you want to put in so it'd basically balance out. if he's wiling to let it go fot 8500, i'd be perfect though

They're right, mods don't add blue book value. He can talk it up all he wants, but I would still talk him down much closer to blue book.

yea, not worth 10,500 with or without all of that crap
not a fan of buying a modded car

well first off, its pretty unlikely that you will have your car sold before he sells his, so how do you plan on buying that one without money? second, i never like buying modded cars just because i know it has been driven harder than normal more times than not. Also, mods on audis make the value go down not up.

I would check that car out top to bottom 2x. And at this point of time you should check for rust too. ONly go for a 1.8t if youre actually planning on modding the engine. If thats not in your plans then your V6 should be quick enough

I agree with FasterA4ThanUrs, I am not a big fan of buying cars that are already modded. Who knows how much the owner beat on the car while driving it. Beside, isn't the whole point of buying the 1.8T so you can modify it? That's my opinion.
Regardless, good luck on whatever you end up on doing.

+100 to what everyone has said. Modding a car is about you, your car, and your love for your car. Don't buy what someone has already done to their car -- it takes out all of the fun. All of it.

I agree for the most part with what everyone has been saying as far as not buying a modded car...but you can check for service records and look to see if he cut corners on his work. He did a lot...so if he cut corners, it would show and that would be a red flag. Also....everybody is right about the mods not adding to the blue book of the car...but lets say that the KBB for his car came back as 8-9 g's....well he definitely put more than 2500 into that car...your call man....your money and your time.

True enough, and you could buy it that way, and remove/sell off all that gear if you wanted to, which would recoup some money for you. But like the others said, look the car over VERY closely for signs of corners being cut during the work. If you find that to be the case, run away.
