Turbo's get THIRSTY when you live @ the redline, my friend. I may be off by a litre, or so, but, no, I mean 12 gallons. 3/4 of my 16 gallon tank went out the loud pipe in the back. AND I LOST!!! BY .06 SECONDS!!! That's what hurt the most.
I think it is time to check your figures again....a v-10 turbo Honda CART racing engine, that produces around 900hp gets 1.8 miles to the gallon at racing speed. Your engine may have been thirsty...but you would have drowned it at 4 gallons/mile!
Not disputing your CART figures, but, those cars are geared for racing speeds.
Small engines need large amounts of fuel/air to make BIG speeds.
I stand by my claim.
NE of you guys with a 2.0 turbo (the size of my Opel's mota, stock, no tricks) got the ballzz to wanna prove me wrong just pick a piece of freeway and HAUL@$$ for about 45-50 miles, keeping your mota at or on your way to redline, staying in 2nd/3rd/4th and (rarely) 5th, as necessary and make sure you're in and amongst traffic at least 70% of the way, while your at it.
ONLY once you've at least attempted to duplicate my results using conditions as close as you can manage to what I experienced can you honestly dispute or confirm my claims. Otherwise, it's just so much background noise yammering away. Armchair quarterbacks don't win any trophies, folks. Make the play or boast to your friends about what you COULDA done.

AWD - Just difficult to imagine anything other than a turbofan drinking that much petrol that fast. In any case, I was not there..and you were so I'll take your word for it.
Oh to be back on the autobahn now, instead of stuck in nyc traffic!!

I feel the same way everyday, here in DC traffic, and everytime I drive back up to Detroit (once every other month, or so). I HATE that a 550 mile trip takes me 8 1/2 - 9 hours when I useta make the run from Frankfurt GE to Vicenza IT (about 605 miles) in 6 1/2 hours in a 2.0L 8v DOHC Alfa Romeo Alfetta Quadrifoglio Sedan, fercryinoutLOUD!!! That thing topped @ about 130mph, all in, down hill, with a tailwind. Ever take teh A5 throug Switzerland? Beautiful countryside. Almost drove off teh side of a mountain too many times to count while taking in teh sweeping vistas. Speed & sightseeing DON'T mix, lemmee tell ya.

All my "driving" in Switzerland was in a train...so the siteseeing was top priority.
Freaked my g/f out driving through italy last year...that was fun for me!

yeah, i don't have anywhere to really let loose yet, and i don't have a radar detector.
and 114 is fast, if your last car was an '89 escort wagon.

Where were you in Italy? I was stationed in Vicenza (about 40 miles N-E, I think, of Venice) for 4 years, and got to roam around quite a bit, primairly in the Veneto region, but also Milano, Firenza, Genoa, and a couple of other places I can't remember at the moment.
Do Italians still roll in lines of cars 10-15-20 long, at 100+mph, 5-feet off of each others bumpers, on the Autostrada? Did you get to experience the 'ol "dotted-line-down-the-middle-of-the-road-equals-passing-lane" phenomenon? Get passed by any RILLY, RILLY old guys in Ferrari? Schitt!!! I miss Italy most of all. Screw teh Autobahn, gimmee the Autostrada and my Turbo Calibra and I'd never set foot in America again!
BTW, if you ever do get a chance to drive through Switzerland bee careful. They take their speedlimits seriously. But only when they feel like it. In other words, speeding is a luck of teh draw kinda thing...

I thought the 2.8 transmissions 5th gear was the same as the 1.8t's... just different gears in between.

Lets see: On my way down to Otis in LA, my Dad rented a Lincoln LS. Frickin' sweet ass ride... took it to about 140mph on I-5, it wanted to go faster but it was Governed. :(
I have been past 100mph alot with my Audi, my A4 just wants to go faster and faster. The most I have taken it at is 120 before all my mods... whenever I mash the pedal, I think about my tires and cops. I want to get tires that have a higher speed rating.

153 mph in a 86 BMW 325. It was on the autobahn. Rented an Audi A4 avant last weekend and drove for 6 hours straight at 135 mph. I LOVE the autobahn!!! Friend of mine rented a VW Pheaton and did 176 mph before he chickened out.

We started and stopped at home. We are buying an 2005 A4 and so we rented one to have an "extended" test drive. And I guess it wasnt 6 hours, my math sucks. We left at 1220 and got back home at 545.
120mph last night in chicago rush traffic

headsoak, no, all hte ratios are differnent. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, are the same as the s4, 4th and 5th and differnent. I know i could do more then 150. My car pulls to 145 like mad, but at 145 is slows down, likes wind resistence is stoping me, its werid.
