When do I get the first oil change at 3000 or 5000?
When I first bought the car the salesman told me 3000, but when he called the other day to see how the car is he said 5000?
When should I do it?

Hi. I am still a noob to the Audi A4 I just bought, but all the stuff I found, dealer/owner's manual, said oil changes every 10,000 miles I HOPE it isn't 3000 miles, because it is $130/oil change at the Audi dealer. I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure you can go 10,000 miles between changes and my on board computer says I still have about 3000 to go.

I would strongly advise you NOT to go 10,000 miles...thats how you get oil sludge build up. Id do it anywhere from 3-5k miles. $130!!! Youre wasting your money. The filter + oil cost me $40 and took less than 30 min to do.

10,000 miles!!! your trippin' big time. no normal car oil will be stable and clean that long.
5000 miles is right, i do mine every 3000 only cause by the time i finally get around to it im closer to 4000 miles.
why would you fuel the dealership with that kind of cash when changing your oil is the simplest thing in the world, try spending $65 and see how good it feels to do it yourself.

We all start off somewhere. There is a wealth of knowledge on these forums...just takes some searching and reading. If you dont know already, there are other audi forums...id say the best is audizine.com AF just doesnt have much action.

I am new to being a car person. I just know what the service guy at the Audi dealer told me. In my Toyota Tacoma I was religious about changing oil every 3000 miles, but I didn't use synthetic. I will have it done when I get to Idaho.

10k is fine yall are trippin! They would not do it if they didnt think it was good. On a brand new car like most of ours every 10k is fine but when it starts to get more mile like 60k plus i would do it every 5k.

For the very first oil change, get it done on or before 5000 miles, after that, every 10k

I have talked to many people about this because it seems that right before every oil change my oil light comes on. Meaning that I need oil. Audi's are known for using up the oil quickly. I have asked around from performance shops to dealers and this is what I came up with. For the very first oil change do it at 5000 miles. After that 10,000. Only if your NOT going to keep the car long. So if you are leasing the car for 3 years or even if you bought it but trade in your cars every 3 years or so the 10,000 is fine. BUT if your going to keep your car and do mod's to it and so forth then every 5000 is better. Good luck!

The owners manual calls for the first change at 5k, then 10k from that point on. I hope that helps.
