The gas cap door has nothing to do with internals. It's like asking me if I have brake dust on my wheels. My owners manual says 87 can be used. I do not believe it contradicts the label on the inside of the door.

OWNER'S MANUAL 2001 AUDI A4 1.8L 4-CYLINDER & 2.8L 6-CYLINDER PAGE 195

"Your vehicle may also be operated using unleaded regular gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87.

However, using 87 octane fuel will lead to a certain loss of engine power."

Crazyhawk, what are you "trying" to prove. Your car "may" run on lower octane gas that. Dude, learn to read, I never said it wouldnt run. We said it wasnt good for it to run that.... understand?

I've found that 89 octane is overpriced in this area. I now put in 9 to 10 gallons of 93, then fill it up with 87. It should average out to 91 octane. With a Mobil speedpass it only takes a few seconds extra.

i usually run 91 octane.

I have that message on my gas lid too... 91 Octane reccomended. I usually just run 91 because thats what they have but if not then i'll go with 93. i just filled up with 91 at $1.71 a gallon... Gotta love Iowa...
