Are you guys nuts? We are talking about a 2001 or something Si with a ka motor making 160hp and way less tq. The race should be close but a chipped 1.8t should take the slow as Si. I drove one once an it was slow as piss. It also doesnt have the vtec kick like the RSX type S has.

hmmm,......I raced one at a track some years ago and it couldnt keep up. this was at the pocono raceway.
I had a 2.8 which I Ibought from my brother who in turn purchased it new in 99.

From what i just looked up on the stock si 1/4 times. It should be 15.6-7 sec. If you cant do that with a chip, you need way more practice. When you start, make sure your at about 3k and shift at about 5.5k. If you follow that, there is no way you could lose.

he didn't ever specify what Si model he was racing, and I still think that the Civic might have a chance because the power to weight ratio is better than the Audi.
Thats just my opinion, I mean I also do not condone racing on the street, at all, I think it is retarded and you should take it to the track, that way you have times to back up everything you talk about.
Just my opinion though, with his mods maybe he'll take the Si, but then again, maybe not.
Good luck though.
edit: I just now noticed you had a chip, so I'll give it to the Audi now.
After you win make him kiss the rings

The only si hatch is the last gen that came out in like 01-04. All the other hatches are ex or dx that came out in like pre 95. Not to mention the only si's with a nice engines are the 97-99 (i think) with a B16 in it and the new ones with a KA20 with a nicer head.

if your a better driver, you will win

The winner will be the one who can drive. You could get murdered by a Civic EX if the guy is a much better driver than you. You could take out an LS1 Camaro if its driver sucks. On paper you should win. On the pavement it depends as much on the driver's skill as anything else.

it really depends on the year. and how 'stock the car is' if you know the kid well and it really is 100% stock, most likely you will get him from a roll, probably not a 1/4 from a dead stop. good luck with this one and keep us posted. (and +1 to the track, but if he lives somewhere like i do where the nearest track is 1.5 hours away i understand if that cant be arranged)

Really? You think? The ex is a 17sec car and dont even think you can get low 16's with all bolt ons. You would have to miss 2nd AND 3rd to even make it close.

Raced a stock '02 SI with my basic mods on a roll and had no problems. If you get a slight uphill, it'll seem like he's not racing. P.S. Street racing is dangerous. Be smart.

That's my whole point - if the person driving can't drive (or gets too much adrenaline rush from it, causing missed gears etc), then it probably won't make too much difference what the other guy is in - he'll still likely win.

i was kind of wondering the same thing about my friends crx. he has a mugen b16 motor swap and exhaust. I have an 02 Avant with apr stage 1. Im sure i will get dusted

but i wont know until our dragstrip opens for the season.

Do you think id have a chance if i went stage 1+?
cincyTT
2/25/2008 2:53:29 PM
^ you would lose... badly. The crx weighs nothing and with a worked B16 he could be seeing 13's where your heavy wagon will take much more than a chip.

didnt end up racing... kid dropped out.... But ive been in his car and when the vtech kicks in puts a good punch but when my turbo's spooling at 17 psi... theres no way he would beat me from a roll... I think he knows my cars faster then his... he just dont wana lose...

If he has the newer si hatch, there is not big vtec kick, they didnt get it.

yah he does have the newer one... personally i think they look like little minivans... ugly as sin

too bad you don't have a turbo vetc motor.... oh wait that is like the vvt motor that the awm's are........ all vtec is, is cariable valve timing right? and you throw a turbo on that..... double punch
i was thinking about getting a plate when i get one of my 2.7's that says vtec eater...... lol
from wickapedia..... there is alot more on i-vtec for the k motors:
VTEC (
Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is a
valvetrain system developed by
Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a
four-stroke internal combustion engine. This system uses two
camshaft profiles and electronically selects between the profiles. This was the first system of its kind. Different types of
variable valve timing and lift control systems have also been produced by other manufacturers (
MIVEC from
Mitsubishi,
VVTL-i from
Toyota,
VarioCam Plus from
Porsche,
VVL from
Nissan, etc). It was invented by Honda R&D engineer Ikuo Kajitani.
[1] It can be said that VTEC, the original Honda variable valve control system, originated from REV (Revolution-modulated valve control) introduced on the
CBR400 in 1983 known as HYPER VTEC.
[2].
Variable valve timing, or
VVT, is a generic term for an
automobile piston engine technology. VVT allows the
lift or
duration or
timing (some or all) of the
intake or
exhaust valves (or both) to be changed while the engine is in operation.

i would like to see the race, sounds like fun. i think what most people fail to realize (not saying anyone here, just in general) that
most european cars are not 'stop light to stop light' cars, they are heavy and slow

but put them on the highway and they will cruise at 120+ all day long. try that in a honda

hoping that was a joke..... hoping. You know, since vvt on a vw/audi is just for start up emissions control and thats it.

The new SI models run slower 1/4 miles than we do. I had a bad clutch, ran a 15.6 and they run mid to high 15's i believe. Im sure it would be close, but for that speed range im pretty sure the audi will win hands down, due to the way our powerband is

yes it was..... i just didn't wanna tell him to race something more in his price range..... cause he is in a b5..... and that 01 honda is pretty close
my point is, most "adults" that drive civic si's do it cause they want reliability and some speed.... and know that audi's are far supirior in looks
and most would rather change cause they know the possibilities of the "power"
