Default Which rear end should I buy?

I've been busy with these polls lately... heres the new one.

As some of you know, my haldex has been acting up, and I'm 99.9% sure its NOT the controller. I think my clutch pack is on its way out.

Theres a guy on Long Island with a complete rear end w/ about 12,500 miles on it, including a stock controller, asking $500. Pulled due to mis-diagnosis apparently. Thats roughly a 6hr drive for me.

Also a guy in Canada with a complete rear end, dunno about the controller or not, about 55,000 miles on it. He's asking $400US, and he's about 2.5 hrs away. He bought a totalled TT for some parts, and is selling what he didn't need.

So, which would you go for?

I would go with the one with less mileage on it if none were available at a nearby junkyard

If you need some help with the LI one let me know. I live in queens so it's about 45 min from me if you need someone to check it out, or pick it up.

I could probably do a little driving to maybe cut an hour off your trip.

PM me if you need a hand or if you just want to grab a drink or a cup of coffeewhile you're down here to break up the driving a little.

Definitely go for the one with the lower miles. The extra cost is well worth it.

yeah....just bite the bullet for the longer trip & extra bill, thats alot of miles, and another one or two potentially missed haldex service intervals :-P

yeah, didn't really think about the potential for screwed up service intervals. A 40K mile difference didn't seem like a big deal to me, considering I drove 30K miles in 10 months last year.

I'll stick with the LI diff. A little break in the drive sounds good, I might take you up on that. Won't make you haul it anywhere though, its big, heavy, and dirty. No need in destroying 2 TT interiors. Of course I have the anti-dirt coating inside my car right now. For those who don't know what that is, its when you don't realize a bottle of laundry detergent has cracked, and is depositing its contents on everything rear of your seatback while you drive. The hatch has a nice blue tint to it right now...

plus now it will have a crazy glow under black light :-) most detergents flouresce.... You could rent a truck pr uhaul for a day so you dont have to ruin any car you care about as well, dont know if your work has any such vehicles they would consider leasing ya
