Default looking at s4's

I am a proud owner of an 96 A4 2.8 and come to realize that the modding isnt all so vast as the 1.8t or as the 2.8 should be...so I started looking at the s4's because I feel i need to upgrade cars, I am looking to do this in roughly 4-5 months after i do my short deployment to kuwait. so with that money, I hope to get an s4, I was wondering from all the other s4 owners which year I should look into the 00-02? that is the years I wanted, I like the sounds of the 2.7 opposed to the 4.2 for gas millege reasons (not the richest in the world) so all input would be taken on gladly.

yea ur on the right track for the year. id go 2001.5 or higher. u can tell the difference from the tagging, look at the 2000 model tags, its the old style audi symbol. the 2001.5's have the actual S-4 type tag. reason being is they fixed alotta issues in the 01.5's+ that the lower years had.

Yeah, rs is on it. Go with those years and it's usually only a grand or so more to get a certified '02 S4 if you can find one, thats what I did. Also, if you chip your B5 S4, the gas mileage will be about the same as the B6 or B7, about 19 miles to the gallon at best average.

Hey rs, what are you getting in your A6? (are you chipped?)

also, i was wondering and this may be a stupid question for all the s4 veterns, but the moddification range on an s4 is pretty wide? and what sorta hp can i expect to get with the simplie mods, chip, exhaust work..ect..also what about this bi-turbo i am unfimilar with it what exactly is it? an audi original? or what..form what i am guessing that its a single turbo? so would it be better to get twin turbos..like the KO4? just some questions, becuase once i find the S4..the modding will be following shortly..thanks again for the input.

dude, i dont' mean to sound like a total *****, but c'mon you gotta admit thats funny! thats good stuff...sorry, but it made me laugh

umm to answer your question about the modding, yes there is a very very broad range of things you can do...as for hp from those basic listed mods, i can't give you a number...

the biturbo is basically a system that audi uses (i dunno if its an audi creation) to minimize turbo lag, at least thast my understanding of it, one for the lower rpms and one for the higher rpms, thus giving you solid power throughout the powerband...if i'm wrong guys, please correct me..

the k04s are the turbos used in the rs4...beefier, most of what i've read on this board pretty much states that you cant really just drop the k04s in, you end up adding a lot of power so you need to outfit your car accordingly...a lot of people recomend new tranny, clutch, etc...

basically if you put money into your s4, you can make it into a beast...and by beast i mean even more beastly than it is stock...god i wish i had money....

hope that helps, and i hope you realize i wasn't flaming you or anything bout the bi-turbo comment...good luck with the search..

Yeah, you're wrong about the turbos. The S4 has 2 identical turbos that spool up together (1 for each cylinder bank. This is what reduces lag time). You are describing sequential turbos.

chip and exhaust will get you into the 300-320hp range.
KO4's will get you closer to the 400hp range.
Or you can go wild (like I did) and push it close to the 480hp range with some other goodies!
