Default How to know if lower arms are bad?

K so i took it to a place that told me my left lower arm was shot and the right one was loose. However, when i put it on jacks myself i just see absoultly no play in them at all they look fine, and the boots on the back sides look good. I took it to another place (who doesnt specialize in foreign cars) and they told me they didnt see anything it all looked good to them... Any thoughts would be appreciated i just dont know how to check them.

I assume you mean the front... what boots? The boots around the ball joints at the wheel carrier? Are you experiencing a clunk or looseness in the steering?

Sorry i wasnt more specific, yeah the front lower control arms, i dont see any bad bushings, and there seems to be no looseness nor broken boots at the wheel carrier... Im experiencing a clunk but not a looseness in steering and nothing feels like its shaking at higher speeds either.

Wiith the car in the air, put a prybar between the arm and the subrame. Look to see if the bushings on the arms are collapsed or seem to allow for excessive movement. Compare to the other arms.

On the wheel carrier side, with the car in the air, wiggle the wheel with both hands. Any clicking, clunking, or excess play could be a sign of a bad ball joint on one of those arms, a bad wheel bearing, or worn tie-rods.
