Default DIY timing belt

Thanks to Audi Forums, I was able to change my 2000 S4's timing belt (and tensioner), water pump, thermostat (the failure that spurred this action), serp. belt, air filter, and a good deep cleaning.

I can't tell you how thrilled I was when everything sounded "normal" when I cranked it up after performing the work.

Here aresome pictures:

Again, thanks to the members of this site that put the links and tutorials together!

Have a great 4th!
Matt

Nice work man! Did you not push the radiator to one side?

Also, did you go to CSU?

Did you have to use the cam locking tool?

yeah it's really not that hard of a job, just a lot of steps. after you do it once, it's a cinch any other time.

the cam lock bar isn't necessary if you mark the sh*t out of everything. it definitely gives you peace of mind though. I didn't use one on my 12v A4, and ended up getting ECS's ultimate kit for the S4 which included the bar.

I would certainly like the peace of mind of the lock bar though. IMO, it's definitely worth the extra $70 or whatever ECS charges for it now.

I went to Colorado State University.

I didn't use the cam lock bar. [&:]

The radiator was left as seen in the pictures - the hoses provided enough room to lower / extend it out of the way.

Again, thanks guys!

Nice. Not to hijack this thread, but it's nice to see some Ram Alumni.

I changed the timing belt without the tool and everything seems fine. Just did an auto X last weekend and everything held up. I would however recommend using the cam lock tool.
