I have a 2001 a4 1.8t quattro with a Symphony II stereo unit. Everything worked great but recently all my AM reception has weakened and have become noisy with a lot of static. Is there a common issue that would cause the AM channels to deteriorate like a common fail ground wire or faulty antennae wire? AM helps me on my 2.5 hour commute so I would love to get it back, since I recently axed xm.

By chance did you get the windows tinted? The films with the metallic coating tend to dampen the signal. (just found this out today)

Well, The car had tint when I bought it. I unplugged the battery last night for about 3 hours and then reset the radio code. It sounds much better, but not 100% like it was when I bought it.
