Kind of a stupid question, but are there speakers in the front dash of the A4 B5? Or are the only front speakers in the door?

No. Only speakers in the door... one on the lower door and a tweeter near the door handle. Or at least that's the configuration on my 99.5, I don't think I've ever seen anything different.
