Default Buying an S4 with no turbo boost?

I am considering buying a 2000 s4 that is advertised with no turbo boost with 91k miles. What is the worst case scenario of part that would need replacing and relative cost?

Thank you.

yeah how much are they selling it for? If it's just a boost leak then it could be relatively cheap to fix. If it's a blow turbo your looking about 6K or so.

Here is a link to the ad, the selling price as I discussed over the phone would be $7000, is it even worth the headache considering you can buy running s4's off ebay for $10-12k ?

What would be a more reasonable price? The only reason I am even considering the car is the color, they are hard to find.

personally, i dont like the turbos fitted on older models because of the turbo lag. and this also goes for the newer ones as well. that is why i drive a naturally aspirated 4.2 V8. this will kick any 2.7 V6 bi-turbo's (stock) *** any day, anytime.

Yeah but turning up the boost on the 2.7Ts is cake and easy hp. You don't have that easy tuning power on tap because your n/a.

If i wanted a car i could "tune", I would have gotten a WRX Sti or one of those ricer Hondas.

TiredOldMAN, I would normally agree with you. But if you haven't noticed, most of the S4s on this site aren't "riced out". And everyones entitled to their own opinion. Mine is, the 2.7T is better. I purchased my 2.7 turbo from a guy who bought a V8 S4 in replace of it. And he said he HATED it. The torque was funky and so was the peak power points. But I'm VERY sure that the V8 has its pros like the sound and the fact that you can't blow turbos. Sorry I got off topic it just hit a sore spot with the ricer comment.

Streetthispgt, that S4 has been on craigslist in detroit for awhile now. I'm thinking maybe the turbos are blown. But I guess you'll have to investigate. I never really got into that car when I was looking to buy one. But hey, maybe its just a simple leak or something. Good Luck.

Why do some newbies just insist on stirring up trouble for no reason at all?

It's as if you want everybody who owns a B5 S4 to say, "Wow, I'm so dumb for buying this turbo car. That 'Tired Old Man' guy is so much smarter than anyone who purchased a B5, he's an inspiration to us all."

If you had absolutely no intentions of modifying your s4 then why are you here,
and looking for 19" wheels might I add?

Most of the people on the S-Forums are b5 owners which means that you are the minority. So comments like this will typically start redundant flame wars that end with no winner.
We are not your enemies here. These forums thrive on help from others and CONSTRUCTIVE comments.

Apparently your maturity level isn't on par with your age, "old man".

Now back on topic, The car is apparently being sold from a small used dealer. He probably knows nothing about these cars. I noticed it has a boost gauge in the center which hints at possible modification so I'm leaning towards blown turbos. But maybe it could be something as simple as messed up wastegate actuator controls or vacuum lines to the N75 causing a limp-mode condition. If it's just a boost leak then the turbos are probably on their way out anyway due to overspooling. Just some stuff to think about.
Nice color choice BTW!!!
