I thought it would be helpful to new buyers to start this tread, just to give an idea of how much they can expect to pay and for those that got a good deal to brag.
Anyway, I think I took it in the rear a bit because I got impatient and didn't feel like shopping around. Guess I didn't have much time either since I already sold my 325xi (probably would have taken it harder if I traded it in...).
I signed papers for a lease on 10/1/08 for 36 months 12k miles for an 09 Premium Plus with Navi in Brilliant Black.
MSRP: $40,025
Final Price:$39,025
Money factor: 0.00186 (could have gotten 0.00171 if I wanted to pay a $650 security deposit)
Residual was 57% (could have gotten 58% with Audi care).
After all said and done my payment is $613/mo and about $1350 due at signing.
The price off MSRP is about 2.5%, they had deals for about 3.75-4.1% off for models on the lot, but they didn't have the spec I wanted there. They found the one I wanted to be on order at a dealer in Cincinnati so they did a dealer trade with them. I am waiting for it to come in and expect to take delivery in a week.
The Invoice Price I found on Edmunds, I was told was low by about $500, this is due to regional marketing costs, so I would assume would be different across the board.
This was at Imports by Day in Pittsburgh, PA.
Hope this is helpful to at least someone!

If any of you work for a company that supplies Audi or VW in any way, shape or form, you should check out Audisupplier.com...can get certificate for 6% off MSRP on any "mainstream" Audi's (i.e. no R8's, S or RS models).
I got my Prem Plus, with wood inlays (MSRP $38,400) for $35,600+TTL...that was 6% off MSRP (excl destination) for my Audi supplier discount, and another $500 off for attending my dealer's A4 "unvailing" event in mid-Sept.

I am currently in the market for: '09 2.0T Manual, Premium package, Heated seats, iPod interface, Deep Sea Blue
I contacted several dealers in the Denver-metro area and have gotten three quotes back ranging from $32,200-$32,900. I am waiting for two more quotes to come back but will more than likely be ordering in the next week or two. None have offered to throw the maintenance in which they are quoting at $670. Also they are saying they do not know the invoice yet for the manual transmission.

09 2.0T quattro with Premium Plus only, black on black
Aggressive pricing here in SoCal right now. MSRP of $37525
Bought for $33,700 (including destination but before TTL) but I think there was still some wiggle room. There are at least a couple of dealers that are offering that price.
Also note that if you are leasing or financing through Audi Financial, they will pay your first payment on terms of 36-60 months (until I believe Jan 2). That's potentially another few hundred in savings.

Sorry, you're right its the meteor gray, yea it included destination. He was competing directly with another dealer who kinda lost my car in route from the plant but was able to match it, I wanted black originally but he only had this color so I told him if I didn't have to pay for the additional paint I would take it, and he agreed.

2009 Audi A4 Avant (Prestige) w/ Navigation, Rear Sun Shades.
Paid Invoice +$500 for this car.
With the "Season of Audi" promotion: Financed 36 months at 2.9% with first payment free. Taking this initial free payment into account, the true value paid for this car: Invoice - $800
Initial thoughts:
The extra options are well worth it, because the technology is so impressive. Driving, the car feels like it "slinks" down the road and around curves. Do people think this was a good deal for this car? I'm feeling pretty good about it two days later.

1) what was the MSRP (sticker) including destination
2) what was the negotiated price (invoice - $800), including destination, but before TTL.

Great questions. To answer:
1) It's possible to find MSRP+destination ($46,600) and invoice for this car with these options on www.edmunds.com:
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2009/audi/a4/101055718/optionsresults.html?action=2
2) This was a particularly good question, because it forced me to re-examine the fine print of the contract, which actually quotes a starting price of $44,176.88. That's roughly $825 over what www.edmunds.com quotes as the invoice. I had agreed on a starting price of $500 over invoice. Does anybody know whether this perhaps means www.edmunds.com estimates are inaccurate, or was I just dumb not to double check the starting price upon final sale? Anyway, after applying the first-payment discount, the total negotiated price before TTL was $42,814.
3) No trade in.

Invoice doesn't always mean what people think. I ignore it FWIW.
There are always dealer hold-backs, incentives, etc etc which can render the 'invoice' price meaningless.
A new model like this means dealers will bargain harder.
A new Great Depression will, of course, have the opposite effect.

I paid cash for a A4 Premium with some nice options at invoice, with another $300 add on for dealer ad fees and prep, and then TTL. The invoice price included the $825 destination. This was for a car on the lot, ready to go. I sense that if I had spent another week or two negotiating I might have gotten a tad below invoice, or maybe some other goody thrown in.
Another dealer was not willing to go below $500 over invoice for a car on the lot, ready to go. We never got to paper on that one but I suspect that after negotiating the price there would have been another $500 or so in junk fees pre-printed onto the contract. Would you believe this dealer would not let me test drive it in the snow!

Invoice on this is about $38K (see Edmunds) but considering you have a couple other options I would say in the $40K range. But with 9K miles that drops it almost a years worth of value or about $3-5K. w/o a sport package on it I would be looking at about $37K max if I were you but that's up to you. The price isn't terrible but it's not "brand new" and the price they are asking is very close to that - so what if it has all those options, on a "used car" which is what that is, they aren't worth as much... For all you know it was abused and not broken in properly in the 1st 1000 miles which is very important and doubt the GM who can get a new one when ever he wants would baby it if you know what I mean....

Edmunds actually priced higher with all these options ($49,525--not sure why). I agree this price is ridiculuously high. Martian421 was asking about buying a car that had all those options. In the end they just looked at the price difference between the manual and automatic for the B7 and used that to come up with the agreed upon price.

They gave you a price for the Manual Transmission? My dealer ship could not give me any price for it.... I don't know how they where able to do that. They also told me it will get here Late March. I pre-order it. Same as yours, same color. I don't know what my monthly will look like. I am leasing. I Called other dealers they told me the same thing.. They can't give me the price until it comes to US...
In a way, I'm not surprised they are doing this. I pre-order an automatic in November and got a price quote. Car arrived in mid-January and Audi had raised the invoice price in between. Dealer tried to pass along the increase. They said they had to pay whatever the invoice price was when the car arrived and that they hadn't been given any advance notice of the increase by Audi. I said no and they backed down. Assuming what they told me was correct, I think it is pretty poor treatment of the dealers by Audi.

i'm in L.A. and the lowest quote i got for the fwd was 31,975 plus ttl and 33,795 for the quattro plus ttl
i just had the dealers bid on prices. lowest priced bids got a second chance, then narrowed it down to offer on my trade in and financing options. i told them i'm not going to use any dealer's price to get a lower price from you. they had to offer their best price because i wasn't going to bargain. if they gave me a price and then tell me that they can do better than any dealer's price then they're full of s41T! if that's the case, i can't trust them and not buy from them. guess what... it worked! i got lower prices than a car broker.
i figured... why should we let them control the sales situation? they're the ones who need to make money and put food on the table. we're just in the market to buy a car... ANY car. so i thought i'd take control of the situation and not give them any wiggle room to control what i want.
so i got a 48months at 3.9% with 12k down. selling my car private party (still having second thoughts about selling it).
nothing has been signed yet, but a car has been put on reserve for me when it arrives end of the week or early next week.

Equivalent in the states for my car would be the 2.0T Quattro Prestige 6MT, phatom black, with Sport pkg (without 19" rims, 18" ones) and navi pkg. I got 5% off MSRP, so using the US audi site, I would have got it for $41443 + fees and taxes.

Way lame that Audi's online build your car feature doesn't include destination in its final price! A quick check of BMW, Mercedes, and Acura and they all show it as a line item and include it in the total.
Can't recall, does Audi exclude it from the total on the sticker too?

Bought one at the end of March - 3% discount from MSRP, Audi Care and 100K powertrain extended warranty thrown in. 0.9% on 36 month financing (Audi Finance offer). Actual price was $39,263.50 including $299.50 "junk" fee ("Customer Service Fee" and "Lien Filing Fee").
Probably got taken a little but we already love the car:
2009 A4 2.0T Premium Plus Quattro
Phantom Black Pearl paint
Black interior
Rear Side Airbags
Navigation System
For those looking at possibly buying one - the Audi was the "winner" out of this set that we seriously considered:
Infiniti G37x (AWD)
Acura TL (AWD version)
Acura TSX (we currently have two Acura's)
Lexus IS 250 AWD
And a host of lesser cars
It came down to the Infiniti and the Audi (the TL was judged ugly and the TSX lacks all wheel drive). My wife (it is her car) said that she felt the Audi was more of a car and the Infiniti was too much living room. I found that the Audi's handling on rougher roads (like expansion joints in corners) was much more stable - the Infiniti seemed to want to throw its rear out when it went over a rough spot in a corner. That's what did it for me.
We are really concerned that the Consumer Reports reliability ratings are horrible for German cars - including Audi's - in comparison to the Japanese brands. Our 2004 Acura TSX had to have a complete new A/C system (a common problem for that year) so not 100% sure that CR ratings are trustworthy. We also wonder if people buying German cars expect them to be perfect where Japanese car buyers may be more forgiving. Time will tell.

When you're posting your purchase price - which is a HUGE help to all of us - please do it in a way that is useful.
Simply posting the price you negotiated, or total out the door, doesn't help anyone compare their offers for negotiating purpose because the taxes and other fees are different in from dealer to dealer.
The key questions everyone needs to find a post useful are: 1) what is the invoice price of your specific vehicle, and 2) what did you actually pay for it?
For example, the invoice price according to Edmunds was $35,000, and I negotiated a purchase price of $34,500, then paid additional fees of $495 dealer prep (or some other junk fee) plus $1750 tax plus $150 licensing fee for $36895.
If you don't know these numbers then you are getting ripped off by your dealer because that's where he's hiding profit.

I am in the market for the 2009 a4 2.0t 6spd prestige package. No extra options. I have not seen anybody else giving quotes for this exact set up without extra options. I am in the NY metro area, so I just want to know what prices I will expect to pay. Looking at a finance over 60 months with 10k down. I got a dealer quote of $660 at 3.9 APR but thats seems ridiculously high.
I am hoping I can get away with $38k even + TTL.
I got quoted $520 for the premium plus base.
This dealer did not give me a direct quote of purchase price, just monthly.
Also, is there a wait time for this model?
I plan to purchase end of May, or mid summer. I have read that the 2010 models will be coming out around that time. What are the chances of me finding a 6speed manual prestige thats a 2009 model? The resell residual values don't matter to me as we keep cars till they die. $38k is really the limit to the budget.

Sounds like the dealer that quoted you the 60 month finance at 3.9% is trying to make a few extra bucks off of you. Audi Finance's warehouse rate to the dealer for a 60 month loan is 2.9% (Tier A credit). Dealers are allowed to mark up that rate by up to 2%. You should demand the 2.9% rate.

04-21-2009, 07:19 PM
Yes i recently saw 2.9% on other forums. Also, the $660 for the prestige basic 6spd manual. This dealer has to be joking right? He also says either premium plus or prestige 6 spd needs to be ordered.
Is $550 a month for 60 months with $10k down and 2.9%APR possible?

I've recently put a $500 deposit on a 2009 A4 6MT Prestige Quartz Gray with Navigation and wood trim. I didn't really want the wood, but that was all he had available. Its still on the boat, and I wont get to test drive it for at least 4 weeks. They wanted the deposit in order to mark the car as "sold" so that it would be sent straight here. The only other cars available close to my preference (all at other dealers) was a Black 6MT Prestige with Nav, wood, and S-line (in CA, so 3 days) and a Quartz Gray 6MT Premium Plus with Nav and S-line. I don't want S-line, so those were both out.
We did not start the negotiation process yet, but I'm currently being quoted the MSRP, which is $43400. They are also trying to wrangle me with 3.9% @48 mos, and 4.9% @ 60 mos, which I absolutely object to. My credit score came back as 799.
If I don't get a reasonable price on this car, I am fully going to walk away with my $500 back. I'm willing to let this car sit on their lot, and deal with another dealer, even if it means I have to wait several months while my car is built and shipped.

You sound as if you're in a very similar situation as me. Similar cars. According to my car payment calculator, $550 a month @2.9% for 60mos would be $37,000 (OTD would be around $40,600). $660 would be $43,000 (OTD $47,200), which is above MSRP for your configuration. I would turn that down in a heartbeat. That's over MSRP for MY configuration, which is the same as yours but including nav.
EDIT: Just noticed your $660 number was based on 3.9% APR, which means the price of the car would be $42k. Still over MSRP, so you're being hosed. The invoice for your configuration is $37,280.

I'm still deciding what I'd be willing to pay for this car. I have time on my side. In the meantime, I'm gathering the facts, and right now the fact that they told me the best APR I could get was 3.9 at 48 mos, I'm not exactly happy. I will be either arguing for a lower APR, a lower price, or both. Like you, I wanna try and pay around $550/mo.

I've bought over 12 cars in my lifetime (I know no patience with holding onto a car :) ) but your best shot at getting the deal you've summarized is to call another dealer and spell out that offer and let them know that you'll committ to a purchase if they meet those terms. The problem you have now is the current dealer you're dealing with seems to think if you buy the car you'll be buying it from them (hence there lack of willing to further negotiate).
The best way I've discovered to acheive the best deal is only negotiate hard once you're willing/able to complete the transaction. Once they know that they can earn a sale their attention to the deal hits full stride. If they think you aren't buying the car right now then most dealers will present you with higher numbers almost every time. They do this because they usually think they are being shopped for a better price which is why once you can let them know if they can meet your terms they have a deal "today" you'll improve your chances of a successful negotiation.
tighr
04-23-2009, 10:02 PM
Good advice. I have not begun to negotiate, I just took their quote and said I'd be back when my car is in. I will negotiate at that time. They told me that next to no one wants these cars in a manual transmission, which is why its difficult to get them without ordering them. I think this works in my favor, because if the negotiation process doesn't go so well, I will call their bluff and go to another dealer. If the car is in as low demand as they claim due to its transmission, it will probably sit on their lot for a while, or they'll have to pay to ship it to another dealer. If it does sell, I'll just order from someone else.
I really want to test drive the car before commiting to the purchase, which I will do when it comes in. After that, if I decide I truly want the car, then I can practically order it from any dealer and tell them over the phone my terms and that they have a guaranteed sale if they meet those terms. I'm obviously giving my local dealer the business because that is where I will take the car for service.

$35,000 purchase price ($36,500 after TT&L)
3% implied discount rate
$465 monthly payment for 10K miles and 36 months (includes TT&L and $3,000 payment at signing)

Went into the audi dealership with intent to order a 2.0 tdi in meteor grey, with black leather, active cruise and 17" rims. The demo car I test drove had arrived the prevoius day and had only like 65 kms on the clock, meteor grey, 17"s, but no active cruise. I thought what the hell! So I grilled them for 3 days and got em down from like 63k australian to 50900.
very happy with the car, little dissapointed about not having active cruise, since I drive on the freeway alot, but saving well over 13k, plus the 10-13k ill get for my b5, better than a kick in the teeth.

Forget about the S-Line, it's only for looks and it's not worth paying for it, just get a set of 19" and that's most of the S-Line. If you want the sporty feel get the Drive Select. It IS AMAZING!!!!!!! Next Saturday is the one month anniverasy of my beautiful A4 3.2 and still I'm impressed every time I switch to Dynamic, as if the torque and power is doubled. Hey Guys,
Just got my new Audi A4 3.2 V6. Amazing machine. I bought it for $35,300 + $740 + $1300 for Certification. Its an 2009 A4 Prem Plus with 2k Miles on it and 83 days old car.
It was listed for $35,800 + Taxes. I am a chicago resident so the taxes are around $3k. So total cost of vehicle listed was $35,800 + $3000 = $38,800.
This cost does not include the certification ($1300) and Audi Care ($740).
Adding all these vehicle cost would be = $38,800 + $1300 + $740 = $40,840
I paid $37,340 for the car. There were only two prem plus CPO vehicles in chicago. I put 2k down and received 5.84% APR.
I am planning to refinance it probably next week for better rate. I read on Audi website that they have 0.9% financing on vehicle. No idea why I didnt qualify for that.

The sticker on my 2.0T Premium Quattro was 35K and change because it had the Audi Symphony and the bluetooth but they knocked it down to $30,700 so I gave them 3K at signing and my monthly payment is $379 with tax included for a 36 month lease.

I'm in NY and looking to lease a black 2009 A4, either at the premium plus level or with an Sline package.
Right now the dealer on Long Island is offering me on the premium + $570 a month with absolutely nothing down and they are paying the first month's payment.
For the S-line, it's a fully loaded car, with nav, drive select, and the full works. It's the only black S Line he said he can find in the Northeast, and it will cost me $780 a month. I don't really need all the extra gadgets, but the look of the S line is so nice that I'm really tempted to splurge.
This will not be a commuter car (I take public transportation), but will be a weekend / sometimes weeknight driver.
Given what I'm reading in here, I'm tempted to just get the premium plus and buy upgraded wheels instead of going Sline.

Thanks, that's helpful. Sounds like my deal above at 570 is not such a bad one given that I'm rolling taxes into the payments.
Mind sharing which dealership your offer came from? Mine's Biener Audi.

Thanks for the tip. I called Joe at Anchor and will probably buy a car from him (possibly today). I decided that it probably makes more sense for me to buy rather than lease -- I'll likely only put 5k a year on the car, if that, and it'll be garaged. Why give that car back to the dealer in 3 years with 15k miles on it and in mint condition? I'm putting down like 3k instead and my payments will be a couple more hundred a month, but at the end of one additional year I'll own it. :)

How are some of you folks getting such low numbers? The dealer is quoting me 35,900 for a black/black/premium plus, with all the dealer fee nonsense built in, and he says he can't go lower. Are your numbers excluding the destination charges etc?

I purchased a silver 2009 A4 2.0 Quattro, Premium Plus with Navi. for my wife in early April for $37,500 --- the window sticker on it was something like $41K. It was sitting on the lot at Audi of Alexandria, VA so I negotiated the price there on the spot...

You should check with other dealers first. Once you get another quote then go back to the initial dealer to negotiate. Anyway I've seen that price on my research of new A4 cars.

heated seats, BT, Ipod connector and exhaust tips, Brilliant black with black interior for 27,300 before TT&L. This was also before my Clunkers trade in of 4500. I couldn't get them to budge on the maintenance package though - I think it was a pretty good deal.
I love the car by the way - even at the base level its an excellent car...

Does this A4 include any options other than the Prestige package? If not, then your quoted price is $2,000 under invoice according to Edmunds, which is a good deal. If there are other options, even better.

Just bought a 2009 Avant with Quartz Gray exterior - Premium Plus
I negotiated down to 34,100 including all weather mats
I am happy with the deal and it was fairly painless; now I am wondering about Audicare. Is it worth it? The sales manager gave me a line of BS (I think) stating that Audi requires regularly scheduled maintenance to be done at an Audi dealer for the warranty to be good. He layed out the total costs of these 4 trips at a total of $1900. This seems far fetched to me. Can anyone confirm what an oil change at the dealer costs? Any other insights are appreciated.

I'll be picking up a 2009 Avant, Premium Plus, Meteor Gray, in the next few days. Paying 36,600. The next lowest quote (from a different dealer) I got for the same car was 37,350. I could have gotten a quartz gray Avant from the lot for less, but I asked them to find me a meteor instead. I'm happy to be getting some of the "decontented for 2010" features; i.e., auto-dimming mirrors and memory seats. Whoever got the P+ Avant for 34,100 -- that sounds like a pretty amazing price. The purchase price doesn't mean anything to people on this board unless you clarify whether it includes taxes, title and licensing or not. Even better, tell us what the invoice price was and how much over/under you got.
Also be aware that many dealers will give you the handshake on the 'final price' and then hand you a contract that lists a bunch of taxes and processing fees ON TOP of the 'final price.' Some of those are junk fees.
So please try to provide as much details about the final charges as possible - it really helps others to negotiate a better deal.

There was no trade or clunker cash involved. Basically I emailed various dealers and got them down to 35.5k via email, then I waited a month to try and figure out what I wanted to do. My wife set 34k as her max (I didn't think we would get that); I emailed the dealer and told them that was my price. They told me to come in and talk so I did; they tried to come back with 34,500 and I got up to leave. They then came back with 34,100 and I agreed; I really would have left at 34,500 and I think they knew that.
Total price = 34,100 includes Quartz Gray Avant P+ with all weather mats
Audicare = $740 (I made the mistake of not negotiating this into the price)
Dealer Fee = $500 (they refused to remove this and given the price they were giving me I didn't push too hard)
TTL = not sure but whatever Florida charges - no "extras" in this fee
I bought last day of August so the dealer was able to use the $2,500 cash and they really wanted to sell.
I think it helps that I am in Florida - every dealer I spoke with said they can never sell the Avants and some dealers weren't even ordering any 2010's. I guess Floridian's hate the wagons; the dealers seemed desparate to get rid of them. Worked out well for me; I love it!
