PROUD owner of slightly used A4 has questions...
Greetings... Yesterday I FINALLY picked up a loaded 2003 A4 3.0 Quattro!! Traded in my 2001 GTI 1.8T and, although I was originally looking for the A4 with the 1.8T, the 6 speed and other options convinced me otherwise. Unfortunately there was no owner’s manual and, although the dealer promised to dig one up for me this week, I have already ordered a new one. So my first question… What are the 2 radar-like buttons in the door above the trunk release?
I had a Split Second boost control in the GTI that did wonders (it’s for sale BTW). I realize that the 1.8T is one of the most tunable engines out there and my wife continues to drive the Jetta w/ the same setup (and intake, exhaust and suspension upgrades). I’ve already ordered a K&N air filter for the 3.0 and I see that neuspeed has a chip that ups the HP 5 to 6 ponies at the wheels. Can anyone tell me if this chip (or any other) is worth it? One of the nice things about the Split Second was that it was undetectable at the dealership (besides the boost memory being way out of tolerance
). What has the experience been at dealerships with chip upgrades and the factory warranty?
I love the sport package ride height as it as and would only consider a brake upgrade. Unfortunately, the only ones I’ve found are kits for the front brakes only. I think it would look a little silly to have styling front calipers and stock ones in the back… Are there any kits available that upgrade all 4 disks/calipers? Can you order the brake parts for the S4?
I can’t wait to go to work tomorrow (long commute)!

Well I don't live in San Francisco or anything but I would certainly want a functioning hand brake… Can anyone tell me what those 2 buttons on the door are??
As I said above, I'm without a manual right now... I understand the in-cabin motion sensor... What's the leveling thing about? Sorry if this is common knowledge or if I seem inpatient… I’m just curious and need to know!
It’s got 25,000 miles, BUT… Since the dealers always play games w/ the trade-in value vs. the sale price, I tried (as much as possible) to get both deals settled separately and as close to reality as possible. Although my 2001 GTI only had 38,000 miles, it had a motor w/ just 12,000 miles (this would have made a difference if I sold it outright but, not to a dealer). I was the 2nd owner of the car and, as you can imagine, if the original owner was stupid enough to blow the motor with just 26,000 miles, they treated the car like $#!^ in general.
I ended up getting flat Kelly Blue Book value for the trade-in BUT, because of several obvious defects (plus they use the blown motor against you), they should have given me less. I paid $27,500 for the A4, but if you consider they GAVE me $1,000 to $1,500 more than the GTI was worth (to a dealer), you could say I paid $26,000.
